Things Customers Do, That We Like

We allready have a forum about customers doing things that annoy us, but as few and far between as they are, lets use this space to talk about some of the nice customers we have had, and the ones who have actually helped us.

I will start. One time a while ago, I had a nosebleed, and as I was approching a customers doorstep, with a hankey covering my nose, the door opened, and the woman there noticed that I had covered my face. After enquiring what was wrong, she gave me one of those little packs of tissues, and wished me well. This was rather surprising, as my experience of customers would have me expecting to be lectured about not letting any of my blood land on their driveway!

Another time, when it was raining, an old woman invited me in to her house for a cup of tea! I of course declined politely.

So come on, who else has a story of those few "good" customers?

I've been on my round for 5 years now, part of it I've been doing for over 9 years and I've got to know most of my customers. Some even recognise me out of uniform and say "Hello" in the street or supermarket.
"Would you like a cup of tea" in the winter or "Would you like a cold drink?" in the summer, chocolate bars, Easter eggs for my kids, a present for my daughter when she was born, tips every Christmas, the list is endless. But the best thing is the understanding that I am a person doing a job, the extra I do for them is because I want to and they appreciate it.

Had an old girl who chats to me regulary who says she only trusts the postman,after she had a load of cold callers at her place.

One is really nice to me,she gives me tips at Xmas,she also gave me some tobacco the other day when she realised i smoked,and when i was off she had a load of fruit for me and me kids but as i was off i didn't get it.She had been telling me she was going to a farm for ages,she was quite upset that my time off clashed with it.

One woman who gets loads of packets from her daughter keeps trying to give me a tip when i deliver them,but i don't take it.

And one the other week came up and jumped on me and gave me a hug because her international parcel arrive a few hours before she had to take it to a wedding,i had previously told her about the back log and that packets were behind and i'll look out for it.

I get all that as i live in the area where i work.Loads of people say hello that i don't recognise.

Got a bit of a weak bladder and drink alot of water so pleased when a nice lady said i can use her bog any time, ideal because i pass her house 3 times on my walk..

Today I had a woman come out and say to me "If they had a TV prog where you could vote for the best Postie, you would get my vote", I nearly skipped round the rest of my walk.

As an extra since the start of September I have had on average 1 or 2 people per day asking when we going on strike and whenever I say "Not yet, but I will be supporting it when it goes national" they have to a man (and woman) said, don't apologise I support you and so does my family. Thats when I know we do have support.

I was a a cover but still used to get stuff, I covered the same driving duties for several years.

I used to get pheasants during the season from one of the farmers I delivered to...he handed a brace to G, his regular postie, to give to me when he hadn't seen me for a few weeks. G held a tray out & told him to put them in the tray, he wasn't touching them!

Bottles of wine, biscuits & chocolates at Christmas, the odd fiver.....this was off people who came out & said this is for you, we know you're not our regualr postie, but you do look after us.

For me, it was when a customer was moving house,,she waited on her doorstep to thank me for my for doing my job.

Remember when we got out early, go to a house with a packet/parcel/special delivery and a georgous woman answers in just her underwear..........
Now those were the days......
