TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleagues
POL: National Agreement For The Introduction Of Product Sales Specialist (PSS)
Further to LTB 776 dated 11th September, I would like to provide Branches with an update with regards to the introduction of Product Sales Specialists (PSS).
Firstly, as Branches will be aware, the role of the PSS has been the subject of recent Work Time Learning sessions. As a consequence, the TCRs have visited a number of Crown Offices to participate and on occasions deliver the WTLs in order to promote our agreement on the PSS. Feedback has generally been positive and clearly the vast majority of members understand the need for and benefit of the PSS role and are willing to embrace it.
A jointly conducted conference call between the CWU and POL was held on Wednesday 23rd September in order to answer any further questions from our members and Branch Managers regarding the PSS role. The resultant, jointly agreed Q&As are attached to this LTB, along with the following introductory statement from CWU and POL:
Product Sales Specialist (PSS)
We had a great response to the conference call on Wednesday 23 September, and were pleased so many of you rang to express an interest in the PSS roles and to ask your questions. As a result of the call we have put together some more Q&As to clarify the issues you raised.
Whilst we are working hard to cut our costs where we can, we also need to increase sales and grow income to secure the future of the Crown network. Introducing the PSS role is an important part of ensuring we do this. We also hope it will lead to increased Sales Incentive Scheme payments for everyone in your branch.
If you are thinking of applying for these roles, please take the opportunity to do so.

There will be two PSS roles in each Crown Office (one for Express Mails and one for Travel Products) providing members with the potential to achieve a maximum allowance of £1000 per annum. This allowance will be paid quarterly at the same time as the Sales Incentive Scheme payments.
The closing date for applying for the role of PSS is today, 25th September. We therefore anticipate that in the coming weeks, many members will be appointed to either of the PSS roles.
Consideration will be given after today for suitable applicants in those Crowns which have so far received no applications. Consideration will also be given for those members who miss this date due to annual or sick leave. Even at this stage, I would strongly encourage our members in either of the above situations to apply for a PSS role.
Branches should ensure that details of this LTB are made available to members working in POL Crown Offices.
Any enquiries should be addressed to Claire Bowers at cbowers@cwu.org
Yours sincerely
Andy Furey
Assistant Secretary
