WEM residents fear their sorting office may close and be merged with Shrewsbury.
Town representatives want Royal Mail bosses to attend a council meeting in the town to clarify the situation.
Wem town councillor Peggy Carson said: “I was told a few weeks ago that the staff had been told the sorting office was shutting and mail would be dealt with at Shrewsbury, but Royal Mail bosses said no.
“They are dragging their feet and we want someone to come to a council meeting.”
The town’s sorting office staff have been starting work at 7am rather than 5am, which means post is being delivered later in the day to homes and businesses in the town.
Cllr Carson said people have complained they are not getting their post until 2pm.
“We are not criticising the postmen and women, who do a good job, but it is not helpful for townspeople,” she added.
A spokesman from Royal Mail in Birmingham said: “As part of a general review of our services we have been looking at the possible relocation of our Wem delivery office operation to the delivery office at Shrewsbury and have undertaken a feasibility study into the advantages and implications of such a move.”
