Going to be Prep tested tomorrow

Post by NWpostie »

Hi

as the Title says, I am going to be prep tested, any advice, I have also been shown a sheet with traffic figures and what each walk sould be having and this is based on 12 items a minute average sorting rate.

My Office is now no longer doing the Job properly having now got a deal on VRs and revison also stopping executive action, nearly everybody is now going back to using cars and coming in early :arrrghhh I'm thinking whats the fcuking point

The Rep did however say that if you use your Cars its an individual choice and must have Business Class insurance also if you come in early the Management will not recogise it, so if they return early they will be expected to work up to the "full hours" as in doing all the hours you are paid.

feel annoyed to day as I was throwing one walk in and doing my own, then go out and wait for a Van, the last one to go out was full, so waited 40 minute before the next one came in even then waited in that for another 15 minute making a 55 minute wait time, and dropping another person off, the Lino as soon as he saw me on the platform waiting he said " Prep test tommorrow" I told what I did, thowing my walk AND my overtime walk then waiting 40 min for a Van, after being dropped off didnt start first letter until 12.10 pm had to cancel my docket as I could not cover it, booked over today including my Meal break on top which I worked through

Not fcuking happy

if youve already been tested and have been in the same role for a year, you dont have to take the test again.

Maybe try an keep your own personal diary of these events....cos if he's gonna give you 'special' treatment for every unfortunate circumstance that happens in a day, then you can back up a greivance with a list of stats....? Or just approach your lma and request a line of action for every movement you make....he'll soon get sick of it...!! If he doesn't...as least you'll have kept youself in the right...!! Dig in comrad....!!

You should have cut off! Don't worry about prep tests its standard procedure, make sure your frame is single slotted, ie: 1 house per slot and not 2 houses per slot as this is not part of the test. 12 items a minutes equates to your overall performance, prepping, killing, redirections, tying up, collecting your specials etc, and d2d prep. 25 items is for 1 minute prep only and IT IS only for the first minute, this is not throughout your entire prep and if you fail, training will be offered to help you improve.

But cut off and they'll take notice of you. 12:10 to be starting delivery is way too late in my eyes, 1hr and 50min is a piss take! Cut, cut, cut!

He's not being given the Union agreed one minute test. He's being tested on the unagreed Indoor workload tool which is set at 12.67 letters per minute but that includes tying up ,redirections etc. It is NOT agreed by the union, it is not achievable and it is not moral. Royal mail come up with any arbitrary figures they like and expect us to achieve them. Tell him to f**k off with his crappy spreadsheet and get your area rep on the case.
I know but in my office it's not 12 it's 25 items per minute for the entire duration of the prep (including lifting the mail from the IPS frames), it means that even the heaviest duty has only just over an hour to completely prep a duty and some having only 30 minutes to complete a prep.

Thats not the standards in your office its just the unagreed standards being used by your managers. the only agreed tests are, 31 items IPS for 1 min test. & 25 items prep for 1 min test.

I was prep tested this week and my only tip is to make sure there timings are accurate to the nearest minute.
I managed to average 10.3 items but if I'd been 15 minutes quicker I'd have done 12 per minute. I know for certain that 6 minutes of that was 'to the nearest 5 minutes' i.e. prep 6:15 to 6:30 but I did 6:17 to 6:28 etc.

Half my frame was double slotted.
I'd only been on the job 4 days.
I had 1/2 tray of miss-sorted letters and 1 tray of flats/packets.
I did the previous weeks kill-offs
I bagged up in bored order taking no care whatsoever.
I was told about the prep test after I'd already started prepping.
My 1 minute test was halfway through the prep (I managed 19 per minute)
All mail was collected, counted and delivered to my frame.
The test stopped after bundling up (i.e. before specials, and pouching up)
24 redirections with 17 items redirected.
about 1200 items in total which seems a bit low considering I had three streets which didn't go out the previous day.

Basically a shambles. I think 12 items per minutes is a realistic target but it is not a fair minimum standard.

P.S.

Oh, and one more tip: prep on a busy day (avoid tuesday if you can) then you have a higher proprtion of letters to bundling up time which should improve your average.
And, I finished 25 minutes before my 318 says I should have and I still had to cut-off. Perhaps I don't walk fast enough either :Very Happy
