Hackney posties in protest over job cuts

POSTAL workers from Hackney were amongst London union members protesting over Royal Mail pensions and job cuts at the Labour Party conference in Brighton this week.

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) at the East Bank depot in Stamford Hill took part in the demonstration on Tuesday (September 29).

Mark Dolan, delivery representative of the CWU for North London, said: "Our aim was to bring our dispute to the attention of the Labour conference.

"We were well received by delegates who passed an emergency motion requiring that the government be held responsible for the funding deficit in Royal Mail's pension fund."

Postal workers have been staging action in the borough over the pension fund deficit, as well as job cuts and changes to terms and conditions at Royal Mail for the past three months.
