TBH I think that's what makes the CWU side of this dispute stronger than Royal Mails.

Why -

OK some say they don't know why the CWU is asking for support in a strike ballot, but they still vote YES. Why, well if you ask those same members why they voted yes I bet you will get many different answers, and each reply is just as valid. Therein lies the difference, every postie has there own opinion and has ultimately made their own minds up, and even if they voted NO, I still have respect for them.

Royal Mail management, if my own experience is anything to go by, just keep trotting out the same reasons for voting "No", be they letters to the editor in newspapers, blog posts, interviews on TV and Radio, in the Courier, or posting on Internet forums. Its all too much "Spin" and Corporate Mind speak for me to take seriously. Added to this is their Public face of "our people", and statements of "in agreement with the CWU" yet in real life the impose EA before disagreement; and punish people who have gone out unofficially, instead of addressing their concerns - hardly signs of a "caring employer".

BTW addressing peoples concerns does not mean caving in to their demands, or even accepting them. It means recognising there are concerns which affect the work force and therefore productivity, sometimes just listening will nip problems in the bud. After all the problems caused by asking people to cross picket lines when its against their beliefs is easily circumvented by using a little common sense, or asking drivers who are against Unions to do the job instead. I may not agree with anyone crossing a picket line, but I would far rather have that than see someone sent home without pay just for standing up for their own principles, or so that RM can use it to try and score points in the PR battle.

YE GODS!
this one has lots !!!

Some might be pretending that the internet doesn't exist, that no-one ever chooses to receive their bills, bank / credit card statements by email, thus reducing the amount of mail sent to those households ...BUT IT IS A FACT !

Yes, it IS costing RM dear to ship mail / managers all around the country, but that cost is paid for by the HUGE amounts of money saved when not paying wages to postmen out on strike. RM have shown no sign of even a slight reversal of changes imposed by Executive Action, despite targeted strikes. Even if they do end up shaking hands with the CWU in an agreement that reverses 50% of the EA changes, they still would have succeeded in bringing in vast swathes of change without union agreement or consultation.

Despite its failings, the CWU's Billy Hayes still has HIS political ambitions to fall back on.
It doesn't matter to him if we WIN or LOSE this fight, he's got a safe Labour seat lined up and an MP's salary (plus expenses, of course) waiting for him next May. Will WE still have a job to go to ?

VOTE YES and prepare yourselves for a strike that hits RM hard, causing them to lose customers, make less profit, and thus make redundant much sooner those individuals who would otherwise have had 10,20,30 or 40 more years to go! Its already hit me hard and the bank is chasing me for mortgage arrears.

The Alan Johnsons of this union come and then go higher and higher up a Labour Party that wants to part-privatise us, and which the CWU STILL GIVE MONEY TO !!!! They leave behind them really crap agreements like The Way Forward and the 2007 Pay & Modernisation agreement, which has already reduced our LONG TERM pension benefits :evil/mad

So with all this fighting, striking, and losing wages we are suicidally on a course that will mean OUR FUTURES (not Billy Hayes or Dave Ward's) will be put at risk

It's insulting to tell members of the public like Keefy (see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =2&t=19173" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) "We are striking for our futures and the chance you have of having a decent postal service"
If we fail to get a grip on reality and realise most of the public never send letters any more, don't care if their junk mail doesn't get delivered, and mostly think we should be grateful to have a job, we will ALL have plenty of time to use the lawnmower when we're on the dole all day

Don't be a sheep, use your common sense and VOTE NO
oh dear we're all alone. nobody loves us, the union, the public. obviously a dim worried about his/her bonus. VOTE YES
It's life Jim but not as we know it

as a veteran of plenty strikes since and including the big one in 1971 i for one voted yes, this present management are treating the workforce with the same contempt that caused the industrial revolution.
i have never seen or heard so many angry workers as what there are in every office as just now, crazy targets, bully boy tactics, managers including the people at the top who have never done the job and would'nt know a post box if it jumped up and bit them on the arse.
these are just a few of the many reasons why there will be a yes vote.

Aye - I was thinking the same myself - we should make him resign before he starts his election campaign - then when the penny drops and he realises that an overweight scouser, without a shred of charisma standing for a discredited political regime has as much chance of being elected as I have of dating Heidi Klum.
