Union says mail deliveries affected by strikes

A UNION says strike action today will delay some postal deliveries in Notts by 24 hours.

Lorry drivers who work out of the distribution centre based at East Midlands Airport walked out along with all of the major hub drivers across the Royal Mail network.

The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) said the strike action would cause the delivery of cross-country mail to be delayed by at least 24 hours.

But a spokesperson for Royal Mail said they hoped to minimise delays.

Richard Hall from Royal Mail said: "Customers will still receive a delivery but there's a risk that mail will be delayed coming in and out of the area.

"We have got contingencies in place to minimise that impact. We are using managers to fill those roles that our postmen would normally do."

On Monday, drivers at delivery offices including Nottingham, Eastwood and Grantham also went on strike.
