I'll tell you something for nothing - I for one, at this upcoming time of year wouldn't like the thought of still being out, delivering mail when it starts going dark at 3pm. It was bad enough when I started out at 6:45am-7am sometimes; in the dark and you got the odd undesirable THEN but I shudder to think who will be walking the streets at THAT time of the eveningprowler wrote:Plenty people don't have a job at the moment with many more to follow. I think these later starts should be tied in to a shorter working day

It was normal for us to be out on delivery in the dark before 0645, though you couldn't knock on a door prior to 0645 - I never felt threatened though - that's not the normal time for low lifes to be knocking about. I had completed my first delivery before 8.30 and was in McDonalds for breakfast, casual stroll back to the office by 9 followed by a 40 minute break, sorting and out on the bike and second delivery of due mail i.e. 1st class and due 2nd and home by 11 ish or so. Life was good, 5 am starts, 6 days a week, Saturdays completed by 10 ish 1 delivery only and a pleasure to go to work, businesses had their mail before 8, the customers were happy to have their mail before they went to work - what a sad state of affairs we have come to.

Yes, I remember these days as well. Can you question the change due to childcare issues i.e.picking kids up from school.?prowler wrote:Yes, I remember these days as well. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The trouble is that it is just all flannel. They have to say they have family friendly policies but I have seen others try to get school hours etc. only to be shot down with the 'does not fit into the business model'.POSTMAN wrote:This would affect me and no doubt many others badly, isn't there the flexi working/family friendly thing going about in RM.antcpfc wrote:Can you question the change due to childcare issues i.e.picking kids up from school.?prowler wrote:Yes, I remember these days as well. I dont think RM really give a toss about family life. Youll either prob get offered to move to another office where the times may suit better or live with it. Some lads at our office just cut off to pick their kids up. What else can you do?

If i cut from my delivery to pick the kids up from school it would mean about a 30 mile round tripdejavu wrote:I dont think RM really give a toss about family life. Can't your feathered friends likewise get used to a correspondingly later start ?shimmyrule wrote:krussel wrote:This has been a strong rumor in our office all year. I believe the later start is to help when the walk sequencing machines become active. However they keep putting off the time when these are supposed to come on-line so its anyone's guess. But yes looking ahead it looks as if we are heading to 7am starts.
