Stop Being Naive - Unions Are Killing Postal Jobs

I WRITE in response to the letter published by 'An Ely Postman' in last week's edition of the Ely Standard.

Firstly, you are not the spokesman for me or a lot of other postal workers. The ballot results would back this up as post people voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

Secondly, I, as well as other postmen, do not need my wife to tell me to go to work, the reason being I can make my own decisions and stand up for what I believe in. Instead of people like you hiding behind people like me that are willing to make a sacrifice in loss of pay and then for you to benefit from our actions.

Thirdly, you need to stop being naïve and wake up to the fact that it is not the union killing the job and potentially costing jobs, but, in fact, Royal Mail. Let us not forget it is Adam Crozier and the since departed Alan Leighton who wanted Royal Mail privatised so that they could walk off with a golden handshake and hundreds of thousands of pounds in their pockets. Then where do we stand? Massive job losses.

We need a strong union that is going to fight against Royal Mail's intimidation and constant disregard of agreements, otherwise we will be bullied into walking at four miles per hour (for instance the light infantry pace is 140 paces in a minute, which is very fast and incredibly hard to maintain and that equates to 3.97mph). Let us not forget we are only postmen, not specially trained army soldiers.
