Somerset - Postal delays again

MORE postal disruption is to hit North Somerset this week with the latest walk out of more than 1,000 staff at Bristol's Royal Mail sorting office.

The action began when more than 200 distribution and collection drivers at the Filton base started a 24-hour strike at 8pm last night (Sun).

It will then be followed at 12noon today (Mon) by a walk out of about 1,000 workers from the sorting centre.

Most addresses within the BS post code, including Weston and Clevedon, will be affected by the walk out.

The action, organised by the Communications Workers Union (CWU), is over a row about pay, conditions and job security.

The union is also planning a nationwide walk out, although talks next week between Royal Mail and the workers could resolve the dispute.

Bristol Mail Centre Afternoons and Night Shift strike today 29th Sept, Early Shift morning 30th Sept. 3% of the mail for Great Britain will be worked on by managers only, or more likely because who'd want to get their hands dirty, shipped out to mail centres all over the country. As they've got their own work to do most will still be sitting there tomorrow. Of course strikes are only a way to get the management to listen. Holding up the mail could never be carried out more expertly than by the managers themselves with Bristol Mail Centre failing to process all its first class items for next day delivery on 15 days since April. They must have been doing something right though because their bonuses quadrupled this year with a bloke on £33000 getting a bonus of £8000. No I haven't heard it wrong or made a mistake it really was £8000!
