The future of Royal Mail is to be debated at the Labour Party conference after a motion from the Communication Workers Union was accepted.

The union has been staging strikes across the country in a bitter row over jobs, pay and services.

More than 100,000 postal workers are being balloted on a national strike, with the result due early next month.

Plans to part privatise Royal Mail were put on hold after a backlash from more than 140 Labour MPs.

The emergency debate could be held on Monday following a speech to the Brighton conference by business secretary Lord Mandelson.

Yes but only those who pay into the political fund as the money fro labour comes from the political fund and not the general fund.

This will bea CWU wide ballot so will include BT and virginmedia and other communcation sector workers that are CWU mbrs paying into the PF. Retired members will be included if they pay into the PF.

The CWU represents workers/has members in quite a few different comapnies

London CWU members voted by 96% to end funding to the Labour Party.
But it was a consultative ballot - ie not to actually stop funding, which
can only be done by a National ballot of all CWU members.
The intention was to put pressure on the CWU National Executive Committee
to hold a ballot of all members on ending funding.
