Ok a strange combination perhaps for a subject but there is a reasoning, some ag duties have come up at work and they are for saturday and sundays, (cutting overtime) but, and the internal advert does state this, that the canteen is not open at any time on a sunday. Now these duties are not short ones thatare pretty long so ag staff would be at the mail centre for a fair few hours.
Does anyone know that if its legal for royal mail to offer these duties if hot food is not supplied to the staff during there breaks? O fcourse they wouldnt be supplied hot food as it is confirmed in the advert that canteen is shut. I always presumed that during a break hot food had to be supplied, espeicially as some of these duties i think might be 10 hours saturday and 10 hours sunday, something like that.
Any information on wether this is a legal requirent would be most welcome.
P.S the overtime that these duties MAY replace does get taken up and is very handy to have, would be nicve to keep it as overtime (although the way royal fail is trying to punish us im sure this is part of there plan)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Duties and food
no its not illegal otherwise nearly every single workplace in the uk would need to have a canteen with hot food facilities, which they dont,

Re: Duties and food
They are closing or downgrading canteens across the whole country, cost cutting measure. RM are saving thousands by reducing the hours to either a breakfast unit/ dinner /tea only once they start its hard to stop the process.
Its not illegal as most workplaces these days do not have canteens, so get used to sarnies/barms or TV style dinners and you may just prefer it after a while.

Re: Duties and food
They would get better use out of canteens if they weren't so expensive. Our canteen is £1 for a small bottle of coke
