I'm not sure if after only 12 weeks (17 when the strike is supposed to take place) that i fully understand what is going on.

But from the reasons that have been explained to me (reduced pensions etc) I would vote yes, and stick to it.

Been there, done that, back on the dole and work like f**k to find to another job, every company is the same, all that matters is the bottom line it doesn't matter if it is a private or public company.

Anyone who thinks that stiking will improve things is in cuckoo land, the changes will happen, moderisation will happen, even if the government have to change laws to allow it to, it will happen, all strikes do is slow the process up for short time.Pegman 23/9/09

Blimey you changed your views a lot in 20 days :whistle
you can agree with the principles which I do, I haven't said I wont strike, I will, all I have tried to do is show that some of us will be facing greater hardship for losing a days pay than others, it would seem on this forum that you have to make everything absolutely crystal clear, with no ambiguiites, To be honest I just don't have the time to be that specific.

Exactly, there are so many issues and so muxh beinng talked about.

I agree that Royal Mail needs modernising
I don't agree with blokes losing out on pensions they have worked hard all their lives for.

i can't really complain about part time working because that was the terms I was taken on under.

So for someone like me who has been with RM such a short time it is a confusing issue as not many of those being discussed do really apply, i hope that clears things up a little and explains why my posts appear to be confusing

By the way you write it is easy to see that you are probably an ex deputy manager of one of the larger supermarkets..... You need to chill out dude. I wonder how your wife will feel when you tell her that because of people like you, the union lost and that now you have to bid for your monthly/weekly hours at RM. But I guess you don't give a rats arse because more than likely you intend becoming a dim dom yourself.
My wife would never tell me to go against what I believe in. As long it's not illegal she will back me, and I would do the same for her.
When I got married a part of our vows were "For better or worse".
And as I've said on a previous thread....
...I'd rather die like a man than live like a coward!!!

You couldn't be more wrong, and as for aspirations of being a DIm or DOM, I think at 52 I'm past onsideration for those roles.

FYI my employment history Military....HGV.....and Sales.................nervous breakdown............sales..........depression...........RM[/quote]

Military

Now i understand, you like taking orders. But did you leave because you only wanted to only fight once a week or did the misses order you to out.
I cannot believe someone from the military would would talk the way you do, i have great respect for all are armed forces but if i were in the army,
i can tell you i wouldn't want you in my regiment when the s**t hits the fan. Sorry but it needed saying.

Royal Navy actually, and I wasn't married or attached to one girl at the time, it wouldn't have been fair on her.

And you are talking about stuff you know bugger all about.

You don't act like a man who has served. But if you say you have then I have to accept that you are being truthful.
I was going to write a big speech for you but I'm too pissed off to show you any kind of respect, even though you were a serving man..........
You sir need to stand up for what is right. Have you looked at a stamp lately....... the last time I looked it still had the face of our Commander In Chief on it.
It's a sad day when a Royal Navy man can't be bothered to fight for rights of his fellow man.

Didn't it ever occur to you that they might be DOM's pretending to be Posties just to piss people off. They do it all the time. To know that they can still annoy Posties even when they are not at work is like inter-net porn to them. I guess it's the only entertainment that these sad people ever get.

Now you are confusing loyalty with conditions, I had/have total and undivided loyalty to my country and to my ship mates, because we were formed into a unit, we trained together, we ate together, we slept in bunks 20" apart, that kind of closeness develops a large amount of trust. We also had total rspect for our officers and seniors, we obeyed orders without question, that is what you do in the military, you do not question authority,

That camararderie does not to my knowledge exist within RM, from what I have seen and experienced in 90% of cases it's every man for himself, all I see in this dispute is lots of blokes wanting different things. I certainly don't see any respect for managers or senoirs within RM, apparently they all know nothing, and are total idiots, if we had thought that of our officers, every ship in the Navy would have mutinied !!! So as you are obviously not a military man you have questioned my loyalty to my fellow men without logic and reasoning, a sailors first loyalty is to his Ship, and if it came to it, you would scarifice your mate for the sake of the ship.

I can understand why full timers are pissed off about pensions and I fully support them in that.

The P/T issue isn't really my fight, I'm on a rolling 12wk contract, the present one ends on 16th Dec and if RM dicide to they can terminate it with 2 wks notice.

The modernisation issue, well RM will be modernised, I'm afraid it's something the Union can't stop or even slow down, whatever government gets in will want privatisation, once that happens ..............well the s**t will really hit the fan....................you only have to look at what was BL..................where is that now ?..............the unions fought for years to save it ...............and did they ...............no all they did was delay the inevitable, and it was the party the Unions built that put the final nail in the coffin................. So me trust anyone.............no way....because they ALL say one thing but do another.............Governments........Unions
...........everyone.

EDIT:
FYI I voted YES, but that shouldn't stop me wanting to debate and learn more to find out exactly what all the issues are, because more seem to appear every day !!
So lets debate and not get personal

Same as me - apart from the nervous breakdown and depression but I was a Guin. It is strange that we have similar backgrounds but different outlooks. Until I joined RM I though Unions were useless and pointless. After only 1 year of the way managers treat staff I changed my mind.

Still if you are ex-forces I suspect that even if you vote against the strike you will still support it if that's the majority decision, at least most ex-service personnel will always back their mates up even if they disagree with them, its the culture of the forces.

I have already voted, and my "X" went in the yes box, as you say its the nature of the forces to support your fellow sailor/soldiers/airman whether you agree with it or not.

You are not Royal Navy, if you were you would have put Seaman and not Sailor.
As you have said above..."a sailors first loyalty is to his Ship".
As far as myself and the Military, you would never have the balls to walk in the boots that were worn by me and my mates.
You sir are a make believe plastic soldier.
ps. you could prove me wrong but I doubt it.
