What happens to the work after a 'cut off'.

Five years ago I'd be arguing about this with you.....Now I have to agree. How sad is it, that in so short a space of time, RM have ground every ounce of goodwill from us.

Our office has mail left in it every day, and 9 times out of 10 sits there till the next day and I bet its NOT being reported to those at the top that its failing !!!
We have even had it a couple of times where mail has failed 2 days consecutively. I can't believe the manager is STILL trying to get us to absorb when everything is telling him it's not practical...Its B*!!oc%s

Cutt off's are quite rare but when it does happen the following happens

You want to visit my office, cut offs are a weekly occurance

It's funny but the dom does'nt mind sorting in walks (which he should'nt ) but hate having to complete cut offs

Cut off's more common due to lunch breaks and pouches being broken down requiring hand to hand transfers. Generally relief and spares cut off especially WED to SAT as they may not be accelerated out till near 11am.
Duty holders tend to complete walk and claim overtime due to long standing relationships with customers, hitting RM in the pocket is maybe more effective .

Reliefs like me take it out. No previous or very little training on the round, maps drawn on the back of envelopes, no dog warnings given.
Normally it's about 3 - 5 trays, 1 for each area. Some of the rural areas are 5 - 10+ miles apart.

You get there, no idea where to start/finish on the roads or estates. Little old ladies calling after you if you get it wrong!
Gates you push are supposed to be pulled, gates you pull..well you get the idea. Sky mags always on the cards or BT bills, to every house.
Houses have no numbers, or there's houses with similar names, but "slightly" different, in Welsh!!!
Local dogs see you as Fresh Blood...

If we cut off, it goes back int our frames for uus to do the next day.....................so theres no point in cutting off...........it only adds to your workload the following day

My understanding of 'cut-off' is.....

You let your manager know before bundling up of your intention to cut-off
Take everything out with you
Allow enough time to get back to the office and empty your van.
At the end of your duty time you should be leaving the office.

Next day, you start your delivery at the point where you finished the previous day, to clear the mail you took back to the office.


If you go over the duty-end time, and have cut-off you can not claim for the time you have gone over.

Officially the mail brought back to the office is supposed to be counted and reported as failed.

What gets me is the varying methods used from office to office. Surely there should be a standardised system in place, should the workload exceed your contracted hours and you do not wish to VOLUNTEER your services beyond that point.

At my DO the Docket Kings and Queens grab it as soon as its offered - actually with us its easier to check with them and then tell the DOM who is willing to do it rather than leave if for them to sort out.

HA HA Your a wanna be manager then aint ya? LOL. Sorry just kidding i ask a few people i know that need the cash first before going to the managers as well.
