Keep it up and you will be lucky to catch the end of the game. The stories you are hearing are true and heading your way. 26th October, 15.00 last letter, how do you fancy that on a Saturday. Why is it happening cos selfish people like you can't see the wood for the trees, and won't till it is too late!!

You know what.

If you lot are so pissed off with the pay and conditions why don;t you all resign and go and get another job

Maybe it's because:

You'd have to clock in and out.

You wouldn't be able to choose your start and finish times

You wouldn't get paid as much.

You would have to buy your own clothes to work in.

Or maybe you just wouldn't get a job anywhere else

I have to sign in, sign when I'm going out, sign what time my last letter is and sign what time I arrive back into the office so I'd love a clocking in and out system.
You wouldn't be able to choose your start and finish times
Start and finish times are dictated by management (people can come in early but that is not counted) and I can't just decide what time I want to come in.
You wouldn't get paid as much.
£18k a year is not a great wage and I know that I can get another one that pays better but I actually like the job.
You would have to buy your own clothes to work in.
I have to buy clothes anyway so what would that have to do with the job?
Or maybe you just wouldn't get a job anywhere else
I can but I actually like my job.
You go on about your lack of money on another thread but you don't want to fight for more, RM in the future will be a majority PT job with no OT so answer me - can you live on 20 hours per week pay at minimum wage?

all of the above and worse

Ive dragged some quotes from his last 20 posts.each seperated by speechmarks.

“I have 600 drops, around 500 Semi Detached and 100 Terraced. Walk takes me around 2.30-2.40, though if I really get a move on I can do it under 2.10”
“I also KNOW that in my own office, where we have had a Georoute revision (result - NO deliveries were removed and my own delivery came out at 3hr 25m)”. “there are posties that are saying they don't have time to collapse - yet their walks take WELL under 3.5hrs. Using a car (which most of them do) makes them 2- 30 - 2hrs 45, yet they say they can't collapse?”
“in fact some days it's earlier. (11.10am this morning including collapsing).”

“They day I work to my time I'll let you know - seeing as I've only finished past 1pm about a dozen times in 12 years (on 40+ different walks) I doubt it will be anytime soon”
“Job overall - still easy.”
“I don't take extra packets because I have a car, everything oversized is signed out. I do absolutely NOTHING extra because I use a car - I use it for my benefit not RM's.”

“Lapsing - is that the thing we've been doing all year? Easy. Pegasus? No problem. Tabletop Revision? Had that. Banking of hours? Done it.”
"really heavy today worked till time"
“Yes, come in 15 mins early on Saturdays and finish before 10, 3 hours before my time. Got to get home for Soccer AM”

Every thing this guy says flies in the face of what we are experiencing! If any of it is true he should thank his stars and take heed of what they have done to us cos hes surly next!

I haven't said I wont fight for more, what I said is there has to be limitsas to what the Union expects us to give up, don't forget that as newbie I get £1hr less than most, I also get asked last because of seniority if theres extras going, I'm last inthe queue for leave,in fact I'm last for everything.

The main difference is though I knew of the existing terms and conditions when I was offered the job.

If Unions didn't fight for conditions, if they just said bucket I will leave we would still have kids up chimneys etc. etc. Someone has to stand up and say enough is enough and take sacrifices to achieve that.

Unions had sod all to do with lads chimneys, I think you need to go and read some history books.

Funny you should mention a clocking on/off machine this is what ive asked for in my local D/O they are already being trialed by R/M anyway so hopefully our office will have one shortly. And yes i did clear this with my branch before putting in my letter requesting for a clocking on/off machine. This then would prove to R/M theres not enough hours in the day to take out any more jobs and highlight that we need F/T CONTRACT NOT P/T. Its not about being unhappy in the job peg its about fighting for better working conditions for the future. And i actually enjoy and like the job.

So if you have a clocking machine, what happens on those days you finish early, will you come back in a sort flats or ask for another row ? or will you find a nice quiet corner on your walk to wile away an hour or so ?

Unions as we recognise them today, probably not, but certainly organisations with a Social Conscience certainly did. http://www.yourlocalsweep.co.uk/History.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All you've done here is prove that Unions had sod all to do with getting the boys out of chimneys, it took a Politician to do it.

I did not go out to prove unions did have a hand in it - please read my post again - I said organisations with a social conscience and that would of course include politicians. Not really sure why you posted that as all I was trying to do was inform others about organisations that were around before Unions, and that Unions were not the only ones to promote good and safe working conditions, in fact it was being done before Unions became the driving force behind such changes.

And 200 plus f**king years later politicians are still f**king things up for the ordinary working man whilst feathering their own nest and that of the business fraternity ...

and if i remember my history correctly, it was under Disraeli's government, pressured by the newly-formed union movements of the early 1800s, and a national social conscience, that Acts were eventually passed improving workers rights in the mid- to late-1800s. Included among the Acts was the abolition of kids as chimney sweeps and many other practices involving the use of children as a source of labour ...

history has taught the ordinary working man that if he wishes to improve his working life he has to fight for it.
