Hey dont get me wrong here, if the posties who have cars and dont want to use them, choose to do that, thats fine with me  but i think i will stick to using the van this winter :angel plus many a time i have taken bag carriers out with me and dropped them off (sometimes out of my way) just so they dont have to hang about for god knows how long waiting for a lift out .most in our office use their own transport and a some of them take others out with them too (friends without cars ) i cant see it as a problem myself , is never going to change so ,just embrace it my sisters and brothers :angel :dance :chuckle :chuckle

Because those sh*ts are costing my Sisters and Brothers their jobs and are stupid enough to try to excuse it! The employer then B&Hs my mates that are left in the job because they dont wish to do the same and increase managers bonuses! THATS WHY! FFS!
So you and everyone else on here keeps banging on about how they hate B&H, yet you're all doing it yourselves to people who use cars (including the 'clever' muppet pictures). Just because it's online doesn't mean it doesn't count.

Hypocrites.

The stupid ones are the ones getting themselves into trouble by working at a far slower pace than they are capable of. It makes sod all difference if I use a car or not, I still get finished well within time because I get on with it instead of moaning about anything and everything.
Oh so sorry to have upset you! I am sure that you will go out and top yourself now because of my picture? B&H used against tens of thousands of "normal" postal workers by small minded management every day will hold you up as a hero? I will tell you son you are a very small child because you offer NO reasons other than what you can get out of a problem for your own proffit and damn the rest of us.You care NOTHING about others as long as you are all right and the phrase BUGGER YOU I AM ALL RIGHT JACK springs to mind! You care NOTTHING ABOUT THE WALKERS THAT DONY HAVE A CAR SO CANT DO IT AS FAST YOU! Even though you know that your fellow workers will be beaten with the rod you have created and you slur "decent RMC members that care about others and sacrifice to make life better for others. Like any w*nker there will be a time when those type lose a decent argument so have to resort to twisting words to their own ends (Sure your not one!) but a word to the wise! Never play the B&H card as decent members see it every day at work and it may make you appear more shallow than you really are. Still if the shoe fits? just in case i have you ALL wrong please ring the CWU B&H hot line or an email to them will sort all this out!
No, you haven't upset me. I was pointing out the fact you are a hypocrite by complaining of B&H every day yet think it's fine for people who use car to be harrassed on here.

As for no reasons for using a car, I have listed them before on here. I spent over 5 years on delivery without a car and was absolutely sick of waiting for bags, getting p*ss wet through and freezing cold.

I now have no waiting for bags.

I have dry clothes in the car I can change into if the weather turns, and carry extra drinks and food in the boot. (plus spare 739's etc etc)

I also have a knee condition (not caused by being a Postie) and using the car means I can carry nice light bags. 16kg? not for me thanks.

My delivery is on my way home from the office, which means I do virtually no extra mileage.

All my documents are up to date with RM and I also have my own business insurance which covers me to transport and store mail. I'm not one of the ones that uses their car with no insurance.

So there are the reasons why I use the car.
I will tell you son you are a very small child because you offer NO reasons other than what you can get out of a problem for your own proffit and damn the rest of us.You care NOTHING about others as long as you are all right and the phrase BUGGER YOU I AM ALL RIGHT JACK springs to mind! Firstly, i'm not your 'son'.

The guys around me who don't have a car have to mess around getting buses to the collapsed walk - to make it easier for them and save them time I volunteer to give them parts of my walk and I take their parts of the collapsed walk. I also give one a lift up (often waiting for him to finish tying up) as his walk is on the way to mine.

I have been to the managers and told them that a guy with a bulk mail posting couldn't complete, because he was too worried to do it himself.

I think that covers that 'not caring about others' part.
Like any w*nker there will be a time when those type lose a decent argument so have to resort to twisting words to their own ends (Sure your not one!) but a word to the wise! I'm not really sure what that means tbh, but i'm pretty sure calling me the word w*nker is B&H? I give my reasons coherently and without resorting to abuse, the least you could do is show the same courtesy.

Seeing as we're supposed to be in a debate, could you please show me exactly where using a car is relevant during a Pegasus/Georoute revision? (I've spoken to a planner btw so know the answer)

I get it exactly. 4 Postmen killed whilst driving to their walks.

How many office workers were killed whilst driving to work in the same period?

How many bus drivers/passengers killed?

How many van drivers killed?

Would I be safer riding through a busy town centre on a bike?

It's completely irrelevant.

OnAFlyer and chumley.mouse best read this then and get the hankies out http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=19220" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And I think you have misread the post as 4 postmen were not killed.

hardly a hankie job , a small fine and a slap on the wrist. he should have had proper insurance then. :dance i on the other hand drive a medium size van and it is almost impossible to get anything other than business insurance anyway ( "social, domestic and pleasure sir on a van i dont think so" ) its cheaper for me to insure it for business (read carriage of goods or materials for own business use ) so your sob stories are falling on deaf ears :speak to the hand [*] plus i can have a wee in the back when there are no toilets about :shhhhh

To start i don't use my car,Never Have, Never Will

Anyway I asked my manager about all this and was told that you were only allowed to drive to the start of your round, and only to take your first bag.
He said your are not allowed under RM rules to use your car to get round your duty or carry extra bags.So if what he says is right, anyone using a car to
get around their duty or carrying bags, insurance would be void. :arrrghhh

Sorry but that's rubbish. The paperwork we were given a couple of weeks ago clearly states that RM's insurance has been extended to include storing mail in private cars - it's there in black and white. What you cannot do on RM's insurance is go out of your way to drop pouches off for someone else, or drive around using the car to deliver large packets etc.

Just to clarify something here regarding car use: I DO NOT use my car in order to get finished on my time, and hence make a walker on the delivery struggle. I get finished well within my time using the car and the duty is not too long to be done by a walker.

Anyone that uses their own car in order to not go over their time (when they otherwise would have done) is silly.

Sob stories I Think not, but the most relevant and pertinent part is this:
Norman Smith Royal Mail Safety Director replied "Thank you very much for your letter of 2 September outlining your concerns about private car use. I can confirm that it is our intention to remove the use of private cars on delivery as part of the deployment of the new delivery methods, and so remove incidents like the example you cite.

Now where will this leave you and all the others who continue to use PCOD :hmmmm

Well if RM sort out all the issues with having bags dropped off etc then I don't see a problem at all. I hope I do get an RM van to abuse :chuckle

Trouble is your rounds getting heavier eg more pkts etc with pegasus revisions and its going unnoticed! because your cars taking the extra weight and your just driving a little bit faster everyday and still clearing.
when your on holiday next week and the floater rolls up hes given a bike!
as officially its still a bike job and hes been well and truly stuffed.
Thanks for undermining the sustainability of your job because with your help RM are pushing through changes that will eventually
close around you.

Ah you see you have the wrong end of the stick here, i would like nothing more than to use 1 of royal mails vans on my delivery( or a shared delivery ) ,im not interrested in finishing early and getting of home, i work my hours( more sometimes ). Like i said i use the van to carry the weight, my waterproofs,my bottle of pop, my freedom, mobile loo :Very Happy plus all the other advantages it gives me . but and its a BIG BUT i cant see that happening anytime soon, so until that happens ( and i really hope it does ) i will continue to make my deliveries as easy as possible

I don't use my car, and I do find it a bit sad that those who do are only making it possible for RM to cut more jobs. However there is a silver lining ,and I am pleased to inform all, that in offices where lapsing has been introduced and "our people work all the hours they are paid for" our simple minded car users with money to burn end up doing all the lapsing ,and often finish later :chuckle Short sighted I know ,but hey if they want to spend their own money doing extra work for nothing then they probably don't have the level of intelligence required to understand a fairly simple rational argument .

I AGREE but how long are people going to have to wait for these thousands of vans to appear???? 1 month, 1 year , 5 years ???? plus i heard only the delivery offices with enough room to park all these vans will get them ???? or just some of them :Boo hoo!
