The Last of the Dinosaurs

Post by whitemoor66 »

Apologies to everybody if this have been mentioned before but I've been on holiday in Spain for a couple of weeks, courtesy of Royal mail paying me my annual leave and overtime from my industrial tribunal award. (Thanks [name removed] and [name removed] for lying in front of a judge.) So I have missed quite a bit in the last fortnight.
But this bit stuck in the throat, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/artic ... youth.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I am talking about, obviously, the bit in his column about the current IA and not the bits about kids who want to blow up other kids nor the woman who made up laws to stop employing illeagle immigrants (Quite funny though) and she looks like she might have been hoisted by her own perturb.
I always found RL's rantings quite amusing in the past but bearing in mind he says he used to report on industrial relations in the 70's, I think he is well offside with this rant. He could not have done any research. Before you Blue Shirts come back with the obvious replies, why would he not research this? RL, for me is the journalist who has his finger on the pulse, puts himself up to be shot down (Nobody bothers) and (Most of the time) exposes hypocrisy.

Reason: Sorry, but you can't use real names, unless they're in the Public Eye (e.g. Reporters, Politicians, etc.)

Please explain Dirty Harry.

If you are going to comment on somebodies' integrity, please explain why and justify your insult. If I called you a "Berk" and didn't back up my reasoning, you might thing I was a "Berk!"

You seem confused Mr Whitmoore you criticize LJ for not doing his research saying hes of the mark here .whilst also saying that he he used to be a good journalist!
but you get all uppity when Dirty Harry chips in!
Im not an LJ fanboy and never will be! columnists spout their own opinions and shouldn't be confused with journalists .

Quite right fancy letting off that lightly ,berk just does not cover it :chuckle
Man of the common people on £800,000 a year and living in Florida obviously got his finger on the pulse and feels our pain.
failed to sue after being publicly accused of being an extreme right wing racist and homophobic bigot, judging by some of his work he may have had a hard time getting a positive result in court. Reportedly criticised B.Obama for being "uppity" probably whistling Dixie

Until now the union has relied on unofficial, wildcat walkouts to halt services,
leading to a backlog of 20 million parcels and letters.
Well at least he got half that sentence right.

Richard Littlejohn last sentence is quite right, Royal Mail will only have a future if there is a negotaited settlement. Thats what we are striking and being balloted for and to stop Royal Mail"s imposed change.

The principle of the trade union movement is to protect its members future and whilst we all recognise that more jobs will be lost in the future and that more changes will occur workwise, what we cant allow is Royal Mail to refuse to agree a settlement which allows those who want to remain in the bussiness a job with good terms and conditions and free from bullying.

Comparing us with the miners , the print workers and dockers is not fair compassion as these industires had major problems which resulted in the demise of those industries. Whereas all postal workers are more productive then they ever where even if we were to believe this 10% traffic loss figure.

The reasons for these is that we have lost the equivlant of 60 000 jobs since 2002, we have 20 less mail centres , no mail trains , no tpo , lesser sunday collections , only one collection per day in most areas , but more delivery points now standing at 28.5 million a 12 per increase from 2004.

Well, at least I've got a thread moving. Don't understand the "Whistling Dixie" bit. If I wrote in a paper and wanted to keep my credibility after voicing my opinion, I don't thing I would go round sueing people who critised me, I would wait to be sued myself if I had libelled anybody, but RL is fireproof.. But back to my original question please!

Your absolutely right comparisons with other industry's.are not valid. seem OK until you look closer.
The steel industry simply couldn't compete with foreign production although there was alleged protectionism in the steel marketplace.
Royal mail is making plenty of profit and could even invest if they charged 40p for a stamp which is what it should cost.

The miners stopped coal production ,and shut down the UK causing the three day week.
We couldn't bring the country to its knees (even if we wanted to) we don't control energy production were not even the only form of media!
another time around Thatcher broke the miners by stockpiling coal and importing coal from Poland.
(where am am i going with this)? Royal Mail cant get ahead of the game by sorting the Christmas mail now! it aint been posted yet!.
