Postal workers at 15 mail delivery offices in the west of Scotland have ended their wildcat strike action.

The dispute started after several drivers were sent home without pay for refusing to cross an official picket line in Ayrshire.

Royal Mail said this was "standard practice" where staff refused to work while not taking industrial action.

Postal staff in Ayrshire are involved in an official UK-wide dispute over modernisation of Royal Mail.

Wider dispute

Earlier today a statement from Royal Mail had urged the staff to return to work. It said: "This is unofficial and unlawful action that only hurts our business and our customers, who now have many other options for mail deliveries.

The ongoing dispute comes after the Communication Workers Union and Royal Mail accused each other of reneging on a deal reached in 2007 aimed at modernising the service.

The union has accused bosses of forcing through change without consultation. Royal Mail said the changes were needed to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Mainly due to the fact that we've been told there will now be a new ballot, taking in the whole of Glasgow and the West of Scotland, which if resulting in a yes vote will bring about Industrial Action across the whole area on the SAME DAY meaning we cant be forced to cross other offices picket lines. :Applause

if you are still out tomorrow and our driver is suspended when he doesnt cross the pickets at the mail centre and then we walk out, the management have threatened to take us off pay on monday (21st) also, which is a public holiday locally! lovely people that they are!
Livi DO took unofficial action on a saturday before bank holiday monday, they said staff may not be paid for the monday but every one was.

GMC OFFICIAL STRIKES TO GO AHEAD AS ON MON 21ST AND FRI 25TH SEPT 2009. meeting for cwu and workers at tesco carpark mon 21st at 2.30 pm. :Applause
workers are losing grace relief times, being intimidated and basically being forced into wildcat. gmc manager (name removed) said today that we could stay out and starve. hes the instigator in all this.

So much for the assurances of the CWU suits at Friday's mass meeting that there would be no harassment or intimidation from management if we all went back and that dignity and respect would be maintained. Where's the dignity or respect in a statement like "stay out and starve"??

After Friday's meeting the manager had some semblance of calm handed to him on a plate and he's chosen to throw it back in our faces. He should hang his head in shame!

Got to hand it to those Saturday contracts that walked out. For the majority of them they've lost the only income they have.

So, no confirmation of this from anywhere else? Last I heard (Friday from our rep) was all official action was cancelled.
