Lapsing?
We have had a new manager this year who is very fond of lapsing. Until now we had never really heard of it. What is it exactly? Cos it seems like it's just a disguised term for enforced overtime (not always paid either), or at least that's what it feels like!

Re: Lapsing?
thats when you dont have time to complete delivery, so you leave mail behind, usually mailsort. most offices prefer you to do it in office, but sometimes you do it "on the street"

Its where a duty is broken down and several postmen/women take a bit of that walk and deliver it, you also have to deliver your own walk too. A max of 3.5hrs outdoor delivery should not be breached cos of this action.

agreed, but this is almost impossible to implement, i was on delivery for over four hours today(including my lapsing) and back to the office bang on my finish time.
If i had insisted on a 3.5 hour delivery span, they would have insisted i work to my time anyway.
It seems they have all angles covered.....

Yeah thats more like what is happening, only it seems to be used in our office to give people days off even if they don't want to, cos the boss needs to "lose hours in the office"? We rarely finish before 3pm these days and more like well past 4pm. It's getting ridiculous but we are told we have a duty to deliver the mail and not bring it back or we are in breach of our contracts which we know is not exactly right.

You can work to your time but 3.5hrs is the max of delivery time, if they want you to do more work then you do it indoors, its up to them to find you work!smileski wrote:A max of 3.5hrs outdoor delivery should not be breached cos of this action.agreed, but this is almost impossible to implement, i was on delivery for over four hours today(including my lapsing) and back to the office bang on my finish time.

Re: Lapsing?
Once you have cut off after 3.5 hrs delivery they can make you take an enforced 30 minute break before asking you to complete your round and any lapsing, but by the time you have pouched off, taken your break, cycled back to your delivery it should easily bring you to your time anyway!smileski wrote:A max of 3.5hrs outdoor delivery should not be breached cos of this action.agreed, but this is almost impossible to implement, i was on delivery for over four hours today(including my lapsing) and back to the office bang on my finish time.

Re: Lapsing?
I didn't know that! Hell, most of us deliver 5 hours or more plus 3 hours plus IPS and indoor stuff. Is there like a set of Royal Mail rules on this stuff somewhere?Phantom wrote:You can work to your time but 3.5hrs is the max of delivery time, if they want you to do more work then you do it indoors, its up to them to find you work!smileski wrote:A max of 3.5hrs outdoor delivery should not be breached cos of this action.agreed, but this is almost impossible to implement, i was on delivery for over four hours today(including my lapsing) and back to the office bang on my finish time.

Re: Lapsing?
So, a regular Town Walk I cover is AT LEAST 3.5 hrs, and that's when I used my own vehicle. ( I don't now.) Being dropped off, it takes longer.
Prep is another 1.5 hrs. Getting back from round is 20 min walk.( If I wait for lift, it could be 30+ mins. Was 45 min one day on rural. Got free suntan tho!)
So, 3.5, plus, 1.5, plus, 20 mins, plus break 20 mins = 5hrs 40mins, if it's quiet, 6 hrs plus if it's busy with D2D's etc.
As a Part Timer, on 25hrs per week, where's the 5hrs per day Average???
Someones math's doesn't add up - and it's not mine!
I rarely take mail back to stop the crap I'd get, but think this may alter...soon.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
