i agree you need a strong office to do a work to rule, but we are never given a chance to do it.every time a ballot paper comes out it states strike, this scares people into voting no.an all out strike is going to turn the public against us even more ,they are against us now.what if it is a close ballet or a no vote, then what.
when the conservs.. get in next time round and they will,we will be sold and the public support we once had - well they wont give a f**k.
our union needs to look at the full picture and change.we are being led by donkeys with no vision.
for all our sakes i hope we get a massive yes vote but i think we are f****d either way.

Starting at 6am, that would leave me 30 mins to prep my 700 drop walk, do packets and redirections (no bagging or deads) No chance. Not even God could sort that fast.

How do you do it?

It's NOT work to rule that is illegal,i think you guys mean doing the job properly/safely.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We all get in on time not before time.We sort or own trays ,bundles etc. till 6.30, then do ips till 7.45 or 8.00. ,Prep our walks till 9.00 and then break. After break back on prep. and out around 10.30.
We used to run around but since Royal mail decided any time made is theirs, people are cutting or claiming. We are not normally a strong office but have had enough. We have been doing it for a month and it is much more relaxing, we could not give a s**t how much mail there is as we work our time every day. There is no time for any lapsing. :Boo hoo!

Its getting worse for them as IPS, on a thurs for example, has gone from nothing to 15 mins to 20mins, to 30 mins, to 40 mins and is now 50 mins.

I could cope with 30 and on some days 40 but now 50 mins is in i cant get my walk prepped on time and always leave the office late. I cut off or claim depending on my mood, level of fatigue or whatever.

I prep 20% of my D2D's as soon as i get in and take my 20 mins break. I also adhere to the pouch weights matrix (16,16,12,10,10,8,8...) as closely as possible which may mean breaking down what would have been a 16kg bag into 2 8kg bags . This leads to more trips to the bag drop, sometimes i have to walk it as my bike isnt close by.

These are all things RM want you to do so do them. They cant get you done for following their method of working.

Ive tried to tell freaked out colleagues but only a few of them will listen. It seems much of the workforce (in my office at least) is scared shitless. Work to rule wouldnt work here.
50mins IPS on a bad day :chuckle

We're on at least an hour on Saturdays and today it was 2hrs 15!

Wait till you get walk sequenced mail. It's great ,you save 5-10 mins prepping that bit of your walk ,but oddly enough the volume of inward sorting goes UP 15-20 % . seems like the new machines can't do all that's required ,and the rejects just get thrown back in the mix.Oh yeah ,you will find the volume of missorts goes up about 700% :chuckle . Save 10 ,give up 30 ,thats modern :chuckle

Sorry for going off topic a little but, how do you get your walk up if youre on IPS for that long?

Like ive already said if we had to do 2 hours i'd never leave the building. You must have less drops, but then where does the 2 hrs IPS come from if youre sorting less mail...dont get it.

And walk sequencing...already had that trial and it got canned after 2 days cause it was too slow sorting the mail. Keep it down about Walk Sequencing though eh...Tman might be lurking. :nervous

We were all warned in our office over a year ago by our area rep we had to start doing the job properly to protect our jobs.(a sort of work to rule).
The result, most ignored the advice and carried on tearing the arse out of the job.Because most have done this we are all now between a rock and a hard place, vote for strike and lose money or vote to not strike and have our working conditions trampled to bits.
What gets me is the ones that moan most about the prospect of a strike are the ones that have put us in this position in the first place. :arrrghhh :evil/mad

Rather than a Work To Rule, it's an Overtime Ban that would grind Royal mail to a halt within a fortnight, but sadly an Overtime Ban would never happen because there are so many part timers now for whom overtime is just a part of their normal weekly pay.

Would certainly be easier to achieve. No O/T and no working days off. Simple.

As far as 'doing the job properly' goes, I don't think you necessarily need 100% participation in an office to make it work. There must be a tipping point where it starts to hit home - for arguments sake, say 3/4 of the staff doing job correctly. I dunno?

Lets not worry about percentages, we all know right from wrong. It's just time to be true to yourself,All you can do is your bit,no reproach no personal recrimination ,be true to yourself and have no cause for self loathing, you know the score :Very Happy Karma :chuckle

Totally agree. I was just thinking practicalities. There are always going to be a few that start early, work through breaks and so on.
