Work To Rule
Why not just work to rule it is more sustainable(not loosing money) that will build a big backlog of mail not delivered which would only get worse as time goes buy. Also this would show the jobs are to big it would cause more hassle than strike

Welcome mate,i'll move this post to blue shirts.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Work To Rule
Welcome to the site
. Easier said than done. Try and tell everyone in your office to work to rule and the responce will be silent. I wish my office could do the same, but our office is split in so many ways, so unfortunately it wouldn't work. Some of them come in early and work over their time, without claiming o/t, now thats just crazy. If a duty is going over its time every day, then theres a problem, and the only way to resolve it is to work your contracted hours. Unless you need the overtime.

Re: Work To Rule
I think the CWU like us to do what they call "doing your job properly" which everyone should do all the time anyway, however, how many people actually do this ? thats the problem, people dont stick to it after a few days therefore the need for strikes. The more of us who do our jobs properly the better tho and the message would get back to RM that some of their revised targets are unmanageable.

Thirded. Why aren't you doing your job properly now? Too many folks seem to want someone else to wipe their bottom for them

I'm afraid in my office a lot of people will come in up to 2 hours early just to get out between half and 3/4 hours early

Re: Work To Rule
Too many spineless wimps in offices around the country, would they come in early if they was working a 12hr shift down the coalmine & work through their break & use their own pickaxe & shovel. Also dig faster than everybody else ? NO FLUCKING CHANCE !!!

We have been sticking it out for 3 weeks now, massive O/T bookings and cut offs, about 95% of the Office is DJP, nobody uses their cars, we suddenly had lots of new Linos, seconded from other Offices, our usual Linos have been relocated to other Offices, I think they are trying to shake up the working relationship between Old LInos and Staff, I don't thinks its working the resolve is still there, in fact I think should the campaign stops, I don't thnk many will want to revert to the old (bad) practices, although I am busy having a long day on my delivery because of it, I don't mind booking overtime, I know one thning an dtehy do know it too, If somebody upsets me, I will just cull.
the atmosphere in work is now less frentic.

Re: Work To Rule
I agree. I think work to rule would have been far more effective than striking and would hit RM where it hurts....in their pocket. Unlike striking you can't be suspended for doing your job right.
The major problem with work to rule is you have to have a pretty strong team to keep to their promises. It would only take one or two weak links in the chain to mess it up.

Re: Work To Rule
The excuse given on this forum for not going on a work to rule instead of striking was that it was to hard for the union to police.

Re: Work To Rule
we were doing that in Dundee West and we were having fantastic results. but slowly but surely the usual suspects started using cars again, claiming extended delivery, working days off etc etc etc. working to rule is the answer but you need an office that is strong

Re: Work To Rule
Many people in my office are too scared to cut off for fear of repurcussions. They come in early and dont take their breaks, rush around, freaking out all morning.
Its getting worse for them as IPS, on a thurs for example, has gone from nothing to 15 mins to 20mins, to 30 mins, to 40 mins and is now 50 mins.
I could cope with 30 and on some days 40 but now 50 mins is in i cant get my walk prepped on time and always leave the office late. I cut off or claim depending on my mood, level of fatigue or whatever.
I prep 20% of my D2D's as soon as i get in and take my 20 mins break. I also adhere to the pouch weights matrix (16,16,12,10,10,8,8...) as closely as possible which may mean breaking down what would have been a 16kg bag into 2 8kg bags . This leads to more trips to the bag drop, sometimes i have to walk it as my bike isnt close by.
These are all things RM want you to do so do them. They cant get you done for following their method of working.
Ive tried to tell freaked out colleagues but only a few of them will listen. It seems much of the workforce (in my office at least) is scared shitless. Work to rule wouldnt work here.
