If that's the case, how come parasites like Leighton, Crozier, Higson can turn up a day or two a week and get paid millions? How come local managers can sit in the office all day doing sweet FA (unless they can't cover a delivery on O/T and they take a couple of bundles out) and get paid £40-50,000? I'll bet you're one of those prize drones who turn up to work wearing a suit, carring a bag with a lap-top in and spend all day making teddy bears out of blu-tack. I'll even bet you wear hair gel, call people 'guys' regardless of their sex, come out with stupid expressions like "I must touch base with Steve at acounts", "Go the extra mile", "Push the envelope". Be honest, you couldn't work in convulsions.

ihatelazypostmen ... using the Freedom of Information Act, I would suggest you approach Royal Mail to find out the percentage of turnover in their staff at DOs and MCs over a year. I believe you will be surprised at the number of 'unemployed' that do come through the front door of Royal Mail and within a short space of time are walking out that same door complaining that they cannot cope!

You would have to use the Act as RM are not keen to share any information with anyone if it is likely to cast doubt on any figure they come up with to suit their agenda.

I have been with RM nearly 8 years now (having worked in the private sector 30-plus years prior to joining RM) and I can safely say that RM is quite simply the most mis-managed business I have come across. Managers come and go, but your workforce are the mainstay of the business. You upset that balance at your peril as RM are finding to their, and the country's, cost.

RM's turnover of delivery staff must be huge. Hardly anyone that starts now lasts longer than a few months, most less than that. Almost all of them struggle badly as well,even the ones that stay.

right now RM has a pool of good reliable delivery staff that are more then willing to do a day's work for a day's pay. if you don't fight it's going to be flooded with people being paid minimum wage taking out the work while the few left stay in and sort nothing but walk's. you can bet doller's to dounut's once that happen's work will start turning up dumped all over the place. we're a service ok we need to make a profit. but just how much money do these money grabbers want.

The reason being is they are affected by our strike! maybe but and most importantly of all it has gained attention too our plight and fight for service above profit and a fair workload for all we cannot let the pressure drop for pain now can only result in a better out come for all (THE CUSTOMER) later if royalmail continues its slash and burn policy most business will have their mail delivered after they have closed!.

The 'above loon' has a good point - one day you guys will realise that if you want to get paid and enjoy a decent life, you have to WORK! There is no way round that unless you guess six lucky numbers in the lottery. If you don't want to work, fine, get out of the Post Office and make way for some of the unemployed who would be delighted to have your jobs. Get real.

I haven't seen "job & finish" since leaving Mount Pleasant 10 years ago. Maybe it still goes on in old offices but not in any of the new offices I have worked ever since. Staying till after your finish time is also unimaginable in my experience. We clock out five minutes early and nobody, that is NOBODY is asked to stay after their finish time, not even beyond five minutes before finish time. People who are talking about "job & finish" are as full of s**t as the ones who are talking about staying 20, 30 minutes after their duty time. Unimaginable in my experience. We had a good job but everything is spoiled by prima donnas who moan about everything and don't care about the job. It was nice seeing a former union bully taken out of his cushy job in RVP the other day to tray up pre-sorted flats. This is the shape of the things to come. People sitting in their nice 'signed duties' doing fook all 'waiting for work' getting paid same or even more (specially former PHGs like me) while other people sweating their nuts in different work areas getting paid less (usually juniors stuck in s**t duties). Where is the decency in all this. Some work areas are absolutely back-breaking while others have comfy chairs and flat screen tft monitors! People from the comfy areas should help the bods in shitty jobs. I feel disgusted by even looking at this state of affairs. We should help each other. This is called flexibility. The argument in defense of this heartlessness goes on like this" We were once juniors and did shitty duties, now it is their turn. Let them get on with it." When will this vicious circle of selfishness end? We come to work, help each other, get the job done showing mutual co-operation and respect. That is not going to happen. We are senior, we are 'ard, we play by the rules and agreements. Let everybody else rot in hell. To hell with the job and our junior colleagues. Where is compassion and decency in that? I am not a junior but I feel disgusted. I have been in all those cushy jobs that the so-called seniors are doing now. To be honest at that time I did not think about the unfortunate sods tipping packets or pushing yorks all night. All of a sudden I left it all and came 'on the floor' to work with new people. Even they don't like helping others. This is in the culture of this organisation. I trayed up sorted flats all night last night. I would have refused outright 4 or 5 years ago. We must remember, we work for an organisation which needs everybody's joined and concerted effort to be propelled forward. Division and petty selfishness would never help an organisation go forward. Work as a team, safeguard your hard-won rights, don't abuse them because if wee keep on abusing our rights, we would loose them sooner than later.
