I shall be voting no as the wording will probably say 'industrial action' not strike action, which will mean strike. With the days lost already and new duties bought in in some offices what was the point to a stike why not overtime ban or work to rule. Our office was not balloted anyway and two years when we were on strike no other offices supported us, as far as I can see all this present action just seems to have pitched postman against postman.

Why on earth would anybody vote no? Surely a completely pointless thing to do.
Since the main cause of this dispute is about RM driving a coach and horses through agreements and going hell for leather after their aim of union de-recognition, I just don't see the logic.

I will be voting yes as I did in our local ballot.However I am cynical that the ballot has been put back to start this week,due to 18 Branches not getting their paperwork on members ready on time.My understanding is that most of these branches are in the north west,and that it is a bloc desion to make sure the result dont come out untill after the Labour party conference.So Billy gets off the hook and dont get to embarress the goverment.

They are still entitled to their opinion - its a pity though its not a well informed one:

No only Union hot heads (RM Speak for Union Stalwarts ) but moderate posties who are fed up and realise that the one thing that has not been modernised is the Managements approach to its work force and the Management structure itself. Also must of us have changed and modernised how we do our jobs so that's another ill-informed comment I think.

It will if it says strike action, but as I have not yet received a ballot paper I don't know the wording of the ballot so can't comment - it could say Action up to and including strikes, it could also say Industrial Action and AFAIAA IR includes overtime bans work to rules and the who gamut of action.

I tend to agree with that but if asked I will strike.

If you have not been balloted as a Unit you cannot go on local strike, which is the only action ongoing at the moment. If you have not yet received ballot papers for the National Strikes its because they have not been sent yet.

AFAIK 2007 (IE 2 years ago) apart from Burslem and a few localised units there were no other strikes apart from the National one. There were wildcat strikes after the national ones and they were well supported by each other.

No the French riot on the streets we don't - the present action has involved no Postmen going against others unless they have made a decision to cross a picket line (which is their right), and you will always get that in a strike - TBH not entirely sure what point you were making here.

Comrade Dingo has explained why the ballot is now three weeks long instead of two weeks.

Given his explanation its hard to fault HQ, although the 18 branches still have a lot to answer for.

As much as I dont like the delay in the ballot timescale this was not the CWUs choice. The decison on the date when the ballot closes was the Independent scurtineers call and the union would be at risk for legal challenge if it ignored the independent scrutineers recommendation and bearing in mind they have to sign off the ballot results and declare if it was conducted in line with they recommendation thens the CWU had no choice.

There choice to delay the ballot closure by 8 days was due to the backlog which exists and the further strikes which are planned. She said for the union to be free from such a challenge then that is the timescale which was reasonable.

I think we all know Royal Mail will attempt to challenge the ballot but if the union decided to go against the independent scrutineers recommendation she may not sign of the ballot process as being fair and reasonable in which case the ballot result would be worthless.

And guess whose Branch was one of the guilty ones? I have warned on here before about the complacency of some union officials and it is times like this that a good organised infrastructure is vital. BUT the lessons will never be learned by some, they are afraid to open the debate to the wider membership by excluding them from union business and they do so at their own peril in future elections. The gentlemans club must end and a professional approach to business needs to be adopted.

This may or may not be relevant but has anyones' office had a sudden urge by the management to recruit managers recently? I have a feeling that they are going to get these people to work through the strikes that will surely come. We have suddenly had four or five people apply to become managers and I don't think it is a coincidence.
