TBT is right to distinguish between the 'processing' and 'delivery' of scab mail.

As for comments regarding CWU HQ not taking issue with early starts and delivery by car .. there have been campaigns devoted to doing 'the job properly and safely' which covered these issues among others. Delivery by car is not a new issue that has come out of the 2007 dispute. I have archived LTBs dating back to the 1990s where the use of own cars for delivery was causing concern.

The CWU, to my knowledge, has never rejected out of hand any request from RM for discussion over any matter. That image is only portrayed once RM can't get it's own way over a particular issue. There will always be grey areas in national agreements which, rightly, need to be agreed at local level as no two DOs or MCs quite work in the same manner.

I, and colleagues at my Delivery DO, have been bombarded daily by our DOM seeking o/t volunteers to sort/process mail/packets from an overwhelmed MC. All he receives in return is the expected derisory laughter to his request. One would hope that CWU members would see the sense in presenting a united front to RM, and not require reminding of their commitment and duty to support CWU and its members when in dispute, whether directly or indirectly affecting you personally.

Apologies to Tesco for any copyright infringements  but the following phrase seems apt ... 'Every little helps'

In simplistic terms I would say if your DO does not normally cut/tip/sort mail from the MC then it MUST be scab mail so if it is NOT THE NORM DON'T TOUCH IT WITH A BARGE POLE because we all want to see an end to this and the customer getting a proper service with us not having unrealistic targets to deal with, so why help management and p**s off the strikers that are losing out to achieve this!!

The thing is as all DO posties know we don't have time to do this is in normal time, and if they ask me to come in on docket after work, or on my day off - the answer is a simple NO. The confusion I think was because PHOSTGHOST said he would accept overtime and some posters jumped on this thinking he was Sorting and processing on docket, but I don't think he was. I thought he was getting OT on extended so posted my MODERATORS comment and hopefully that has cleared the misunderstanding.

My Personal View:

Sorting and Processing Scab Mail on Docket - No :so there
Delivering Mail on extended :hmmmm - depends on the day but as we can't tell if its scab mail I can't use that to make my decision.

IS THAT why my DO has 30 yorks of the stuff in sacks? Not done cut and tip for years

Our office is spineless but i believe managers are cut+tipping it into trays then when were on delivery putting it onto yorks

Disgusting.

App all other offices refused it but we are seen as an easy touch which saddens me.

Lets all debate the issues that are going on around the country, But lets not forget we are all in this together and need to support one another.
Just because we don't all see eye to eye doesn't mean we need to start slagging each other off, Remember in the end it's RM thats caused this grief.
SO Guys and Girls Don't let RM divide us or we will only be playing into their hands.

TO ALL CWU MEMBERS AND REPRESENTATIVES

Dear Colleagues

WORKING OVERTIME DURING & FOLLOWING STRIKE ACTION AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHERS

Next week on 28 & 29 September a national day of strike action will take place for those who have already balloted locally. In the South West this means : Plymouth , Bristol and Swindon

LAST TIME THERE WAS STRIKE ACTION SOME CWU MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED TO DO OVERTIME TO HANDLE STRIKE MAIL/DIVERTS. THEIR ACTIONS UNDERMINED THE SACRIFICE OF OTHERS. THE BRANCH VIEW IS VERY CLEAR ON THIS MATTER :

 Overtime is voluntary. No one can be forced to do it
 Examine your own consciences and decide not to handle such mail

THE LOCALISED DISPUTES HAVE HAD THE EFFECT OF FORCING ROYAL MAIL TO NEGOTIATE ON ALL THE ISSUES IN DISPUTE. THOSE TAKING ACTION ARE MAKING A SACRIFICE NOW WHICH IS BENEFITTING YOU. INDEED, THEIR EFFORTS MAY MEAN A NATIONAL DISPUTE IS AVOIDED.

PLEASE DO NOT DECIDE TO BENEFIT FINANCIALLY AT THE EXPENSE OF OTHERS. DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO HANDLE DIVERTS. IT IS YOUR CHOICE – YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HANDLE SUCH MAIL.

THIS DOES INCLUDE ANY PRE-LISTED OVERTIME WHICH HAS BEEN ALLOCATED TO CLEAR STRIKE MAIL

IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHAT TO DO OR YOU ARE PRESSURISED CONTACT YOUR AREA REP OR THE BRANCH FOR ADVICE
