Unofficial walkout in Middlesbrough

Postal workers at Middlesbrough sorting office walked out unofficially this morning after scores of managers from across the north of England descended on the office in an effort to break the union.

“About 130 delivery staff work at our office, but Royal Mail have drafted in around 150 managers,” a union rep told Socialist Worker.

“They’ve been brought here to punish us for taking official strike action. They say they are here to make sure we don’t get any overtime work as a result of our earlier strikes.”

Another union rep said, “We have machines that are normally operated by two or three people being surrounded by groups of up to 20 managers. They are constantly pushing to make people work harder.

“The atmosphere is terrible, but people are not putting up with it. Already a handful of processing workers have walked out, we are expecting the rest of the office, including the delivery workers, to go too.”

Union reps said anger at the office continued to grow when it became clear that Royal Mail were rewarding managers with a free breakfast at the company’s expense.

But by walking out Middlesbrough postal workers have shown they will not be pushed around – and are giving Royal Mail indigestion.

We have the canteen which Rm bless em refurbished years ago with new hotplates, oven etc, problem is they wont let anyone in to run it.

Where do they find all these managers? Are we actually sure they are managers and not unemployed bankers brought in to help out?

Just goes to show if they can raise 150 managers just like there are way too many managers in the business.
Just wait till royal mail starts to attack the jobs and conditions and see how long it takes the cma to come running to the cwu for support.

A very good question dgp, I'd be discreetly looking as other brothers and sisters should be looking, to see if each and every one of them are carrying their official RM Identity Cards.
