Postal services 'hit by Spanish practices'

Post by Geezer »

Royal Mail workers have reportedly been involved in so-called Spanish practices which have disrupted services.

Postal services across the UK have allegedly been affected by workers using so-called "Spanish" practices, according to reports.

The Daily Telegraph has claimed it found evidence of Royal Mail employees discussing the tactics, which are designed to disrupt services, on an online forum.

It claims that several strategies are outlined on the site, including "pouching off", where workers actually place mail they are unable to deliver back into postboxes, and "cutting off", when they leave post undelivered on rounds.

Talking to the newspaper, Martin Walsh of the Communication Workers Union said there could be such practices taking place in the UK, but added that Royal Mail is imposing changes "which make it harder for postmen to complete their duties".

Royal Mail recently condemned the CWU's plans to hold a ballot on further strike action in the UK.

"The Daily Telegraph has claimed it found evidence of Royal Mail employees discussing the tactics, which are designed to disrupt services, on an online forum"

Could someone tell the Telegraph and the Mail the background to these 'practices'. They won't print my comments for some unknown reason and they keep repeating that posties go home early after their rounds ...dates back to the 1970's. NO IT DOESN'T, it dates back to SDD. It was a sweetener to persuade the workforce to accept longer deliveries and scrap the first delivery.

They'll just start accusing us of plotting on the Internet. And start quoting PMC instead.

Besides: We NEED the Public to be able to come on here, to find out the truth. I was asked only yesterday, about the Strikes. And I'm sure that most of you are asked about it, too. Why not give them an opportunity to come on here. Read what we have to say, and ask questions? :hmmmm
Surely you aren't going to let the Gutter Press scare us off, are you?

I agree, unless the public do come on here and read what we are actually discussing they will believe the half truths and lies published in the press.

And of course, they'll come on here and take every word (of some clearly very unhappy people) as Gospel. No, they won't think posties would have an axe to grind in the slightest, would they?
I mean, it's on the Net so it must be true...

Right then, let's try it another way.
Non RM staff won't come on here and see the real truth behind the papers' crap, as suggested, because they'll likely dismiss it as either a load of bleating postmen who should really be grateful they have a job, or just a load of posties echoing the same sentiments as those on strike. You know, those same sentiments that sections of the public always feel compelled to write and say whenever the subject comes up for discussion?

Either way, they won't go, "oh, we see the light now, and it's clearly all down to abject management etc etc" whatever they've read on here.

Understand now?

How about "concerned" - or are they just the exception that proves your rule.

I am glad I don't hold such a bleak outlook on things, of course we can't change all the minds of those that are closed and biased against us, but it shouldn't stop us trying.

It's not "bleak", it's the acceptance that most people won't change their opinions (or take thier views) on any subject from pages of individual's comments posted on a web-site, unless they take personal gullibility to a new level.
Anyone here saying "but it's the truth" would probably get the reply of that classic cliche "well you would say that, wouldn't you?"

Ward came across quite well this morning on the BBC, but he and the CWU have been slow getting this message across. Sadly I doubt that he really changed anyone's opinions either.

Why would anyone expect them to think that everything they read is true? :d'oh!
The fact is, that the Public are only getting one (highly biased) view of the situation. I must admit, that the BBC were far more accurate in their Reporting this morning, than they have been for a while. But what about the rest? :hmmmm
What we. And indeed everyone, needs. Is to look at what BOTH SIDES are saying. Particularly in the light of the recent article. Which took such obscure quotes from here, that it took us a while to find them. And claimed that they were the views of the majority on here. If someone actually came on here for themselves, and had a look, they'd know that. But how many will believe the Press, without checking their facts? :hmmmm

Personally, I go out of my way, to try to get a balanced view of the situation. That's why I go on PMC as well as RMC. There are a lot more Managers, being open about their views on there. So I get to discuss the situations with them, without them getting "flamed". And of course, there are a lot of Managers, who come on here, to find out what WE really think.

Let's face facts here: In any dispute, there will always be propoganda. So if you pay attention to what both sides say. You have a better chance of getting to know what's REALLY going on. :hmmmm

well for once i agree with this post from Mr Tman. having just listened to the radio 5 live phone in about the dispute, everything he says here has just been replicated by the public phoning in to this show. we had some lady ringing in and comparing working for RM now as to what it was like when her Dad worked for RM - how many Sky magazines did your dad have to deliver on his round , your usual suspect saying if you dont like the job go and get another - for f--ks sake most posties like their jobs , we will all be better when RM closes down its a dinosaur- of course we will check out the price of a stamp in the rest of europe mate, another small punter that runs a courier service he cant wait till we go on strike because he will get more work - how much do you want mate ? can you manage to deliver these extra million items in your small transit van !! and to all the small business owners why dont you get in touch with your local MP and complain , after all the Government is the main shareholder last time i looked and the Union has offered to suspend strikes if RM get round the table for meaningful talks, what more could they offer FFS.
