Spanish practises

I spoke to the Daily Mail journalist who wrote this piece. He said when he was researching the dispute here in London, many postman spoke up saying they felt it was unfair to RM that people left work early as many still do. And therefore the Spanish Practices are very much still inplace. Thats what prompted him to write that

when i spoke to him i said to be a journalist you are meant to investigate both sides. So i told him that he should read the article by the business man based in Bristol to see his take, and also what the MP for Wimbledon is saying as he is condeming management. He said he will more than happy to read if i email him. Which i did. His email is

isnt it the case that if journalists make incorrect statements and they are proved to be wrong - that they issue an apology in the same newspaper?

I also read that in the mail... apparently we're all finishing 2-3 hrs early and if we do go over our time even by only 10mins then we book 3hrs overtime for it!! Surely the union should be contacting the mail in an official capacity and requesting a retraction and apology for printing this utter B***S**T.

Well you certainly don't expect to get a fair and balanced report from either the Telegraph or the Mail. I'd really like one of these jobs where I finish 2 hours before my time. Funny that they don't mention the "job and finish" was promoted by management as it meant that they got a lot more work delivered by giving us an incentive. Or that a lot of this time that was made was by people working straight through without a break and using their own cars, at their own expense, to make time. Also they conveniently overlook any reference to the impossible duties imposed with the georoute system which of course means we pouch off. Still when has the truth ever got in the way of a good story ?

Thats a managment failure then to organise the work and staff properly and equally.

It happens in my D.O.

As soon as we are back from delivery off home we go all with the blessing of the local managers, so little balanced reporting!!!

Potentially if the DOM stopped early starting and skipped breaks work would be available as the mail centre sends some mail over at 12ish and then takes away collection mail back to the mail centre.

Longs and shorts have not helped matters either, with long days giving some duties more time than they need.

But that's one of many facts, that the reporter, conveniently forgot to include in his article: Those who finish early, do so because they do one or more of the following: Start early, work through their break, use their car, carry overweight bags. Do ANY of you know of someone who starts at the right time, and does the job properly. But still finishes early?
There may be a few. But I doubt it.

One of the problems I see is adding on the early start and meal break to the time the person actually got done and then comparing to the scheduled finish time is that they do not match.

That means if the DOM wants to put extra work on the argument of early start and missed meal break does not hold up as taking them into account is not enough to get to the scheduled finish time. Our rural duties have 30 mins shorter day Monday Tuesday and Saturday at 7 hrs 30 mins a day now if your day off is a Wednesday Thursday or Friday thats 45 mins a day extra on the former straight eight hour day to make up th long days. There is no doubt what so ever to me that some duties can manage with 8 hours so 45 mins job and finish can be created without the OPG working any faster or doing anything different at all compared to pre longs and shorts.
