A THIEF stole a Royal Mail van which had been parked outside an Aberdeen shop.
Grampian Police were today investigating the theft which happened during rush hour.
The mail van was driven for several miles before being dumped at the side of a road.
Today officers were trying to track down a member of the public who raised the alarm.
A Grampian Police spokesman today said: “Officers were called to Wellington Road, near to the roundabout with West Tullos Road, following the report of the theft of a Royal Mail van.
“The van was taken from outside a shop.
“It was driven along Aberdeen’s Hareness Road and was recovered soon after on the city’s Old Coast Road.”
The police spokesman added: “Officers are keen to speak to a man who was dressed in a suit who alerted the driver of the van to the theft.”
The incident happened at 5.30pm yesterday.

Could this be another potential sacking offence for gross misconduct in failing to properly safeguard the integrity of the mail. Daresay very worrying times for the postie concerned.
