Postal strikes across the country. A walkout by National Grid IT workers in Newcastle.

A "dirty jobs" strike by council workers in Leeds. Trouble on London Midland rail services, as staff refuse to "volunteer" for Sunday work. What have all these disputes got in common? Over-mighty bosses who think they can lord it over employees without them fighting back.

How wrong they are.

Thirty years of Thatcherism and New Labour post-Thatcherism have not crushed the spirit of the British worker. And I rejoice in that fact.

Strikes are invariably reported from the employers' side, or in the context of disruption caused to the public.

Rarely do we hear the voice of the workers.

Refuse collectors up 'ere are protesting about £6,000 pay cuts, posties about imposed work changes, IT staff against job transfers to India and rail workers about the ending of double time for Sunday work.

These are genuine grievances, to which the boss filth turn a deaf ear. Perhaps they'll listen now. Nothing improves the hearing like the job not being done.
