A POSTMAN sacked after staging a rooftop protest will have his appeal heard next week.
Paul Dawson scaled Royal Mail's Burslem delivery office for the second time on August 11, minutes after being sacked for a previous rooftop demonstration in March.
The 39-year-old, from Ball Green, was one of 12 employees suspended at Burslem two years ago over allegations of bullying, which sparked weeks of strikes by sympathetic colleagues.
He was subsequently exonerated. However, in March, he climbed on to the roof to demand a public apology from the firm.
That apology was issued, but his protest saw him accused of trespass and wilfully delaying the post.
Mr Dawson, who has a seven-week-old son Joel, appealed against his dismissal last month and a hearing will now take place at Wolverhampton mail centre next Thursday.
Yesterday, Mr Dawson, who has worked for Royal Mail for 20 years, said: "It would be brilliant if I got my job back, but I'm not holding my breath.
"It could still take months to get a decision. The hearing might be adjourned, or there could be a re-hearing.
"I'm surprised it's happened this quickly. It's only been just more than a month. I thought the process would take longer."
Mr Dawson was due to find out yesterday whether he would be charged in relation to last month's rooftop protest, but police have extended his bail until September 30.
Mr Dawson said: "I presume it's because they are carrying out further investigations, but on my part it feels like they are dragging it out.
"I just want it over and done with, so I can get on with my life.
"I've been trying to find work. I've applied for a couple of jobs, but to be honest there's not a lot out there that's in the area or full time.
"I'm just taking this opportunity to get a few jobs done.
"I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the appeal. I've always loved my job as a postie.
"There's nothing else I'd rather do, but I'm not confident I'll be back doing the job anytime soon."

Re: Rooftop postman faces job appeal
The Management are lucky we don't live in America, if nobody gets fair redress in USA, then some people would just flip and get their guns out and start "going Postal", some People can be pushed too far, its not right but its human nature, if it was done in the fairest manner possible, the you can't really argue, if it was done with malice thats a different story entirely.
I know of one Postie who is wating to really batter one Manager (who happens to be a nasty peice of work) who had sacked his brother unfairly, not heard anything yet, probably waiting for the right moment.
