Is the CWU two seperate unions

I have a question that I hope someone can answer.
Is the CWU one or two unions?
The reason I ask this is that in the last year there have been 60,000 job losses at BT.
I was of the understanding that BT workers are also CWU members. If this is so then why did you not back them when they were losing their employment? I've asked a couple of CWU reps and their response was that BT CWU members were nothing to do with them and whatever problems that they (BT CWU) had was nothing to do with the RM CWU.

Unfortunately the Tories Anti-Union legislation which was not repealed by New Labour,
prevents Union members from taking solidarity action - unlike in the rest of the EU (and
probably the world), where it is considered a basic human right for workers to be able to

In my opinion the postal side of the CWU haven't got any bottle. I'm not refering to it's members, I'm refering to the senior officials. I hope your members realise that once the government has shafted the CWU then they can stick it to whomever they want. There is a further proposal to get rid of another 30,000 BT etc members by the end of the year. (there have been 60,000 job losses in BT etc in the last 10 months already). What are you going to do when they start to come at the RM with the same intentions? What can the government do if you all go on strike together? (I'm refering to every member of the CWU which at the present time stands at 250,000). The answer is nothing except listen to what you have to say. Anyone will listen to reason if you give them reason to listen.

There is an old saying: I'd rather fight like a man than live like a coward.

As far as your seniors are concerned (which I don't think they are), maybe if you stopped paying your dues and stopped paying into your friendly society they might get off their a***s and do what they are paid to do, which is to protect you and your jobs. Maybe your area reps should be in senior positions as they seem to be the only ones who really care about what is going on.

No but they can fine confiscate union funds or possibly instruct RM not pay our union dues each week.
To be honest its a great shame that more was'nt done in the day to stop the milk snatchers poxy laws bit befor my time so I suppose its a bit easy for me to say that.

We are one union but we have different national officers who deal with industrial matters. Their equivlant to Dave Ward is Andy Kerr who is the senior deputy secretary in charge of telcom matters.There is also a telecoms executive as well as a clerical execuitive within the CWU who decide matters effecting British telecom members within the CWU and I think your find many of those layed of were agency workers. However i think it is fair to say that postal members are stronger industrially then our telecom members.
