Royal Mail Dispute – Update on Negotiations

Should the union should call off the ballot when phase 4 has been implemented? Does Phase 4 mean just talks or does it mean a national agreement?

To assist development of a fourth Phase of Royal Mail modernisation, consultation and negotiation will now take place in the following working groups. The intention is for these joint working groups to develop national agreements, where appropriate, by no later than the end of April 2008, to be deployed as soon as possible thereafter.

So what does this mean? Have there been any national agreements since April 2008? Are RM saying that NA's on modernisation arent apporpriate by refusing to negotiate?

Im confused.

RML only accepted just a few weeks ago that phase 4 DID require Negotiations,talks and agreements.

What about all the changes already bought into our offices? Mine for example. Mostly unrealistic absorbtion amounts we all take out 3 days a week. What they are just gonna say " oh its ok lads forget that now!" yeah right

We are doing the Job Properly in my Office, its causing chaos, we have been booking lots of hours, there have been a few cut offs and the Management have to take it out themselves or bring in outside staff to do it, Managers have been called in from other Offices to assist, they would rather we deliver it and extend instead of Culling, this the second week of DJP, the Management seamed to be getting frayed one or two is not happy about carrying bags out after 1.30pm which I believe is the time they should be knocking off, Im sure they didn't expect us to be carrying on into week two, wait til week four !!!

Royal Mail Dispute - Update on Negotiations

Further to LTB 755/09 negotiations continued last week and the Union also received a written response from Royal Mail to the formal offer we made to resolve all aspects of the dispute.

As a result it is clear, both in writing and negotiations that Royal Mail now accepts that a solution means local change including offices where executive action has taken place, must now be progressed by agreement. Both parties are now trying to agree clear ground rules that would ensure local change is fair and deployed in line with all existing national agreements and the Industrial Relations Framework.

The company has also confirmed that the objective of Phase 4 talks must be to reach further national agreements that will shape and take forward modernisation. Royal Mail has accepted this must also cover pay and benefits to employees. Whist some progress has been made it is essential that Branches and representatives convey the following messages to all CWU members:-


* Only a 'yes' vote will maintain the pressure on Royal Mail and secure a national agreement with a shared vision of modernisation that is in the interests of the workforce, our customers and the company.


* The Union continues to work hard on behalf of the membership and is determined to secure an acceptable agreement through negotiation.

Both parties have agreed to continue negotiations this week and further developments will be reported in due course.
