No they just raise the hourly wage rate for everyone to match the current 40 hours rate if doing 35 hours.andy2007 wrote:Basically, it means that if we fail to get the pay rise we're asking for, but DO get the shorter working week. I may be a bit dense here but does that mean part timers will get more money and work the same number of hours and full timers will get more money and work fewer hours or am I missing something here? So as a part timer I could work fewer hours but still get the same amount of pay but won't have the choice - that doesn't seem right somehow - many people choose to work fewer hours and that would be negated somewhat if full timers worked less hours and consequently did less work for more money, whereas a part timer would do the same work for more money.
Anyone willing to explain this to a poor old timer with limited brain power these days?
If we get the pay rise as well. You'll still get a slightly bigger raise, than the FT Posties, for the same reason.
This means 40 hours FT get no pay raise but a work 5 hours less
PTimers moving to 35 hours would get a pay rise and extra 5 hours work
PTimers staying on their current contract get an hourly increase.
However off the top of my head this would be between a 12.5% and 14% rise and I can't see RM going for it unless we accept a pay freeze for a number of years to compensate - still no harm in asking is there.
