Re: What Do You Personally Hope To Gain From Strike Action
There are fundamental issues that need to be addressed:
Part time contracts without prospects.
Involvement at basic level in unit organisation
A fair and equitable distribution of work
A reasonable reduction in the working week on a sliding scale because 35 hrs isn't realistic as a starting point
More holidays
Less aggravation over ill health problems
Most of all though a leadership capable of negotiating and leading the membership.
So all in all nothing to gain personally but I hope that by addressing these and other issues we return to a workplace that is a good place to work and not a place where fear of bullying and harassment are the norm.

Re: What Do You Personally Hope To Gain From Strike Action
I CALL UPON EVERY POSTAL WORKER TO SHAKE OFF THAT SUPINENESS AND INDIFFERENCE TO THEIR INTEREST, WHICH LEAVES THEM IN A SITUATION OF SLAVES.
IS NOT THE POSTAL WORKER AS MUCH RIGHT TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THEIR LABOUR, AS THE RICH HAS THEIR CAPITAL?
SUCH A MEASURE I’M WELL AWARE WILL BE DREADED, REVILED, REPROBATED BY THE MONEY PART OF THE NATION. THEY WILL DEVISE ALL THOSE SCHEMES AND POLICIES THE CUNNING OF MAN CAN INVENT.
HOWEVER LET THE WORKING CLASSES OF GREAT BRITAIN SEEING THE NECESSITY OF ACTING APON SUCH PRINCIPLE, REMEMBERING THAT UNION IS PARRA.
POSTAL WORKERS LISTEN TO NOTHING THAT MIGHT BE PRESENTED BEFORE THEM TO DRAW THEIR ATTENTION FROM THE SUBJECT.
A LIFE OF DESPISING AND CONQUERING, PARTY DISPUTES, PERSONAL BICKERING AND THEY WILL ACCOMPLISH THERE OWN SALVATION AND THAT OF THE WORLD.
LET EVERY POSTAL WORKER COME FORWARD, FROM NORTH TO SOUTH FROM EAST TO WEST AND UNITE FIRMLY, TO PEACE OF ME TOGETHER AS THE HEART OF ONE AND THEN NO LONGER WOULD THE INTEREST OF THE MILLIONS BE SACRIFICED BY THE GAIN OF A FEW, BUT THE BLESSING RESULTING FROM SUCH A CHANGE WILL BE FELT BY US AND OUR POSTERITY, EVEN TO GENERATIONS YET UNBORN.
VOTE “YES” FOR STRIKE ACTION

Your reply lacks a certain finesse - could you expand on why you think its twaddle - after all we are, as has been pointed out, a forum, where debate is the general idea.Ernie Shoe wrote:wolfie citizen smith wrote:I CALL UPON EVERY POSTAL WORKER TO SHAKE OFF THAT SUPINENESS AND INDIFFERENCE TO THEIR INTEREST, WHICH LEAVES THEM IN A SITUATION OF SLAVES.

Re: What Do You Personally Hope To Gain From Strike Action
what i would like to see is people coming in to work knowing that they have a job to look forward to and not the constant threats of being taken of pay if you dont do what you are told.
the thought that we might get a pay rise in the future.
that we may even keep some of the earnings we are used to.
that we may keep the duty we signed for.
some respect from the managers to us delivery staff who do the hardest job in royal mail.
i could go on for more but just being treated with a bit of respect would not hurt.

I want then to realise im not just a number but actually a human being that is doing a difficult job in difficult circumstances. I want R/M to adhere to any local or national agreements they sign up to not just for one,two years but for the foreseable future. I want a fair daily work load not a work load that is straight out of a dickinson novel. I dont want to be throwned upon if i book O/T if i go over i go over simple as. I want R/M to enter into meaningful negotiations at national and local level. I want R/M to listen to there workers as it is us that know how to do the job properly and effectively ,just because they hold a DIM DOMS position doesnt mean they know best . It is us the shop floor workers that keep R/M working daily ,not managers who choose to sit in there office all day long and only come out so they can dictate menos to us on how must worker harder, better ,smarter and efficiently. I want to feel proud of working for R/M on knowing we are giving a top quality service ( like we did when we were on two deliveries ). Instead we have to endure on a daily basis MAD MANAGEMENT that has dragged the name of R/M through the mud and continue to do so. I have the prospect of having no pension when i retire ( 2033 ) s**t thats a long way off and i truly beleive that the dire state our pension fund is in , there will be no money left in pot ,How can there be the deficit grows daily. But the goverment who own us choose not to bail out our fund but choose to bail out greedy bankers instead isnt the labour party great. I want F/T contracts to be the norm again not these silly 25,27,30 hr contracts. I will have to end my rant i could just go on and on and on but do you see where im coming from ,our company is in one dreadful state and if we dont make a stand now were will it all end ................... VOTE YES.....................
BRILLIANT with you 110%

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

i hope to get any manager who has blatantly ignored employment law to get sacked.
there is a reason employment law is in place and regardless whether their bosses are forcing them to mistreat us they should face the consequenses.

Re: What Do You Personally Hope To Gain From Strike Action
Quite a simple answer for the question to be honest. Vote "YES" and back the union all the way if you want a chance to protect our working conditions now. We must command a strong "YES" vote and then must stay out for as long as it takes as the future of postmen with no voice is frightening to say the least. Pathectic management will have a field day and pay cuts will be first on the agenda after all job cuts have been accomplished.
People moan at saying the union has no power anymore, well NOW is the time for those people to understand that the union is only as strong and powerful as the members in it want it to be-as simple as that. If you want a strong union...BACK IT NOW!!!!!!! Or if you trust mangement, then dont cry later when ya pay is cut and everything we have fought for over the years will be lost.
