What Do You Personally Hope To Gain From Strike Action

I was talking to a college today,about the up coming National Strike and he expressed his opinion that he personally thought we would not gain anything worth the paper it was written on.
This got me thinking, what do i personally hope to gain from the Industrial Action which we will be taking in the very near future, And how does that compare with other peoples expectations.
Now i know all about the 35 Hrs week and of course the Pension Issue but what else would i personally like to see come out of all this,
and how does that compare with the views of everyone else, so here goes.

The most important change for me would be an open and honest management structure, where managers could speak the truth not just to their workforce but their superiors
as well without fear of retribution, Then maybe the reality of what's happening on the floor,would filter through to the top,and new ways of working ect, would be brought in,
in a structured and realistic way.
There also needs to be a new system of some sort introduced, where managers that do bully, harass or intimidate people are disciplined or removed and where the person reporting then is not himself then bullied.
This might then let us all work together on making are working lives less stressful and bringing in new ideas to help RM make the profit they crave and at the same time helping to rebuild the best postal service in the world,
not only for the customers but for the whole work force as well.

The bare bones of this dispute is to have a union that can negotiate terms and conditions and pay, So although not a gain just the same, but the most important vote and dispute we will ever have and if its a no vote it will be your last vote so vote YES.

It must be a yes vote for the right to negotiate, it you vote no on this one you really shouldn't be in the cwu.

even with a yes vote it not all going to be nice and rosie there will be change but at least it gives us a say in that change..

Then I think you need to rephrase your original question. Right now it reads like all our problems stem from a lack of communication between shop floor and senior management. I think most of us can see that everything we endure day to day is a direct product of top down management,diktat and threats.

The end result for me would be Royal Mail actively engaging the union in order to construct a measured and realistic strategy for modernisation and its implementation.

If RM want efficiency and profitablity then human resources need to examined constructively before technology and machines.

This is why Royal mails business model is failing.

When we get a yes vote for national Industrial action, the union should use this action/oppertunity to work to rule "Doing the job properly"

Many years ago the postal system was working fine, the collection times were fine and time the mail got delivered to our customer was fine (early). Now collection times have been changed and posties leave their delivery office late to get the mail to our customers how can this be modernisation. I want our postal system to go back to what it use to be efficent and effective, the changes that are taking place now are not working. From what I have seen over the past decade automation has not improved RM why are we finishing later and later surely we should be finishing earlier and why are we still working 40 hours per week instead of 35 hours per week if they say the mail volumes are falling, this is all down to bad organisation and planning techiques and this is why I want a yes vote because we cannot carry on with all these incoherent ideas.

I hope that we can:
Prevent any further degridation of our service.
Stop RM derecognising the CWU (which apears to be their intent).
Stop all EA, and return to proper negotiations.
Have achievable targets.
Get any/all new equipment up and running BEFORE giving out EVRs. Then we'll still have the resources to get the job done properly.

I was just wondering what we all hoped to get from the aforementioned strike action and if there was a common thread of things we would all like to gain from it.
When my mate said it to me the other day it just made me think! what would i hope we achieve and is that in anyway what other people hope for,because i want
as other posters have said to enjoy coming into work and feeling respected and valued not just a slave to be ordered about and treated with contempt.

I'd really rather not go on strike and unless the union put forward a suitable plan of action (assuming it comes to it) then I might go in - no pissing about doing a day here or there and then have all the idiots running around the day after clearing it and booking o/t.. Strike and then back in, work your hours with no o/t.. That includes part-timers who seem to book loads of o/t to earn a wage - if you want full-time wage get a full-time job, not have RM pissing you about on part-time hours yet expecting you to work 40+hours a week!!

Having said that I will vote yes whatever, everybody needs to vote yes, no ifs no buts.. Without a strong yes vote RM will see weakness and will play on that and let us go on strike, they won't be concerned as they will think they can break us easily.

What do I want :
To be treated with dignity and respect at work!
Pension situation resolving would be nice, but I won't hold my breath.
35hour week? again, not arsed, would be nice but I'd rather work 40hours a week without being bullied and treated like s**t!
Not to be questioned and made to feel useless just because I exceeded my hours and I want paying o/t for it, if I work o/t then I should be thanked for helping the company out not be treated like a theiving scumbag.
A return to early deliveries, customers preferred them, I preferred it too.. I'm sick of sweating my bollocks off in the midday sun lugging heavy bags around, what happened to health and safety?
Removal of higher/top-level management with people that have common sense, I've spoken to a couple of line-managers who (whilst trying to be good little boys, to help their job prospects) are just as fed up with implementing this s**t as we are having to do it!

Hmm, I'll stop listing things now before it gets too fantasy-land!
