has had a short-term impact on volumes, but it is too early to say the extent to which this trend will

1, The introduction of competition has definitely had an impact on volumes in what is known
as the upstream end of the market ie mail centres and regional distribution centre. However, it
appears Royal Mail takes no account of the fact that all of the competitors' mail still has to be
delivered by our members.

2. Royal Mail has changed the items-per-kilo figure which is the key figure involved in
reporting overall volumes. This means, when they compare this year with last year they
are not comparing like for like.

3. Even if 10 per cent volume decline was accurate, to assess the impact this has on your
workload, one must also take into account the decline in jobs. Royal Mail claims there have been
over 40,000 job losses, so a 10 per cent volume loss set against a 30 per cent loss in jobs means
you are now working harder than ever.

80+ million items per day divided by several mail companies is a decline on RM mail centres ONLY

80+ million items per day are still sent to RM delivery offices - Resulting in NO decline in the UK mail market

So yes, English comprehension can be bent and twisted, you're right and RM management are becoming very good at the lies!

Phantom I hope you aren't saying that tman is w.r.o.n.g. - the mere utterance of the word in the same breath is enough to cause global disturbance. You cannot be serious, in the words of a once famous tennis player, please be told once and for all "mail volumes are falling" - full stop. Yes of course your bag may be heavier, your call rate may have increased, it may take you longer to prepare and deliver BUT volumes are falling - don't ask me to explain - it is one of life's' mysteries only revealed to the chosen few - unfortunately I haven't been chosen.
