UP TO 900 postal workers were expected to strike today bringing chaos to mail deliveries.

The 36-hour strike was due to begin at 9am today involving the main Plymouth Mail Centre in Plymstock as well as delivery offices across the city.

Union bosses have said workers feel they have to strike to show their dissatisfaction over job cuts, changes to shifts and pay.

A ballot among workers returned in a huge result in favour of strike action.

Chris Webb, divisional representative for the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), said the results in Plymouth showed they were four-to-one in favour of strike action. He said this was one of the largest majorities in the country.

I work as a postie and even i don,t know why there is a strike. no one tells you the facts.

I would just like to congratulate my colleagues for their stirling efforts today in completing the collections around the PL area and not reacting to the intimadating tactics of the CWU reps on the picket line throughout the day. Keep up the good
work chaps.

Thanks to our postie for delivering our post today. Some comments to thinkabout...'I work as a postie and even i don,t know why there is a strike. no one tells you the facts' and 'not reacting to the intimadating tactics of the CWU reps on the picket line'. A worrying throwback to the 70's when even Harold Wilson PMwas alleged to be a spy for the Soviet Union. These unions are the paymasters of a lying, corrupt and unelected government made up of ex communist party members. They want to stifle debate and expect their members to follow like sheep then have the cheek to criticise extreme right wing parties. The unions inconvenience the public through striking but the union reps still pick up their pay as normal. You couldn't make it up!!! They are no better than the champagne socialists who abuse expenses! Bring on privatisation where the workers will be better off without the unions!

It comes directly from upper management filtered down and to be used as often as the dim dum's can do so ..the great conference call diktat.........the idea is of course to spread dissolusion amongst posties........along with ''''those jobs in london ..etc are half the jobs you have'' bultshi t''' being fed to us at the moment

I felt intimidated once by the CWU - I mean the cheek of it asking me if I wanted a Burger or a Sausage from the BBQ on the picket line - fancy them trying to manage my diet - I wanted both :mad
