More postal strikes are planned

Cambridgeshire postal staff have announced more strikes in their fight against Royal Mail plans which their union says will lead to job cuts.

Last week Communication Workers Union members at the Cambridge delivery office walked out in a 24-hour strike.

Now the union has announced walkouts by delivery staff at Peterborough on 3, 4, 7 and 8 September.

Royal Mail said it would do its best to lessen the impact of the strike on the service provided.

The union said members in "Peterborough will be taking further industrial action, as Royal Mail try to introduce walking speeds of more than 4mph over four hours of a delivery".

"This is unworkable and will lead to 39 delivery duties being lost in the city and have a severe impact on the delivery of mail," a union spokesman said.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We cannot understand why the union is claiming to support modernisation when it's pursuing a policy of actively opposing the changes we need to make."

BBC Look East on the evening show featured the Peterborough IA and two postioes gave look east a demonstation which was filmed and shown on the programme of the walking speed RM want compared to a normal walking pace.

They (look east ) spoke to members of the public about walking speed and each and everyone of them were on our side for walking speed. :cfo :cfo :cfo
