Dear Colleague

RE: Royal Mail Dispute: Ballot Postponement

After consideration of a report from the SDGS and Organising Department, the PEC have decided that there is no alternative other than to move the Royal Mail ballot timetable back one week, in order to ensure that the Union is able to demonstrate beyond doubt that it has fully complied with the requirements of legislation.

Ballot papers will therefore now be issued on 16 September, with the closing date for the ballot being 30 September.

We apologise for any difficulty that the revised date may cause to Branches, but it is essential that all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure full compliance with legal requirements.

Thats OK apart from the news about the shoes it was the usual collection of smiling happy faces, happy offices where everyone is happy to lapse, absorb, work in other offices, have enough vehicles to do CDVs and where the PDAs work. O'h yes there was 1 bloke complaining about shorts.

Following a National Conference Call today Dave Ward DGSP made the following request - Every Branch in the UK must have a plan by next Tuesday to show that they have held, or will be holding gate meetings at every unit within their Branch before the ballot papers are dispatched. Branches will need to forward this information to Chris Webb Divisional Rep and me as a matter of urgency. Field officials will be available to assist Branches with gate meetings if requested.



I would urge Branches that in order to secure a Yes vote all our members must have face to face meetings so they fully understand what is at stake with the ballot. The success of the ballot rests on us doing the work; your ongoing commitment to this campaign is much appreciated.
