Millions of women will see a vital retirement benefit slashed by half thanks to a government stealth raid on their husbands' pension benefits.

Those affected include any woman whose husband was born since October 6, 1945, who has built up an additional second pension.

While they might have expected to get their husband's State Second Pension if he dies, from October next year the Government will take half - cutting the widow's benefit by up to £4,000 a year.
