PUBLIC SUPPORT, play your part
Public support in the upcoming National strike will be VITAL !
PLAY YOUR PART !
If you get the chance to explain why we're going out on strike to your customers, THEN DO SO !
I would rather give up 20mins. of my meal relief explaining to customers WHY we are going on strike than finishing on time
KEEP reminding your customers how THIER town / rural service has been REDUCED since we've gone on a PROFIT FIRST, SERVICE LAST management lead idealism.
Tell them that MANAGEMENT is getting 10% BONUS while you get NOTHING ! and the management get 10% BONUS for CUTTING the delivery service
REMIND them that they used to get their mail by 0930 -town / 1300 rural. and now that it as & when RM feel like delivering to them
REMIND them that Alan leighton said that they are NOT our customers, that big buisiness is all that RM care about
REMIND them that they got 2 deliverys a day a few years ago.
REMIND them that most other post companys (TNT UK mail etc. )drop off the mail BACK to RM to DELIVER
REMIND them that dispite RM's claims that mail is down 10%! THAT DELIVERY OFFICERS ARE DOWN BY 30% ! : We are all working at-least 20% HARDER!
Tell them that YOU CARE but RM upper management DON'T CARE about them, Only about PROFITS & their BONUS's

It might be the BEST 20mins that we posties have ever invested in our careers ( remember, your in it for the LONG TERM, not for making a quick buck! ) we have ALL got to work to at least 60 , if not 70 (if RM get their way) before we retire !

Re: PUBLIC SUPPORT, play your part
Hi
I am seriously thinking about trying to do something to raise awareness about all of this as no-one in the media is showing a clear arguement about why strikes are happening. If any of you can, could you please list the email add of your local office or of your local CWU rep. It would be very appreciated! Thanks

Re: PUBLIC SUPPORT, play your part
Might be worth a try but I doubt it would help that much, I'm sure the public are aware of how s**t the service has become and likewise I doubt they care to do anything about it getting worse. That's the problem with this country, too many soft arsed twats that will bend over and take whatever s**t gets thrown at them without fighting these days, were going backwards to the days of workhouses with companies taking the piss at every opportunity..
What are the public going to do - write to their MP for them to do fk all a usual, write to the papers that will probably be slating us for going out on strike again..
I just hope the job situation in this country picks up soon because as soon as an opportunity comes up, even with less pay I'm out of this s**t to get a 'normal' job. :lfo :cfo :mfo

Re: PUBLIC SUPPORT, play your part
i think most on my round know why but what bugs me is when you read in the press that the strikes are about money when its not we will not get the public on our side if they are lead to believe its about money, suggest the union take a page in the national press telling the public why we are taking action and it should be done now before its to late.

Errr, are we talking about the same public that looks certain to inflict a Tory government on itself come next June?
If so, I'd rather not court it's support, thanks.

Re: PUBLIC SUPPORT, play your part
To be honest, even though im a member of the public supporting you - i am a bit confused. I only know personally what goes on in 1 office and im disgusted about what happens there. The one thing i am confused about are the arguements about the machines. I thought that one of the reasons for strikes is the extra work being put on you without the machines brought in (as in, if the machines were there then you could manage the extra work as you wouldnt need to spend time sorting). Is this the case? Even though the machines would take away sorting jobs? Or are you against the machines being installed full stop?!

Bit like us thenconcerned wrote: i am a bit confused. I only know personally what goes on in 1 office and im disgusted about what happens there.
You have it right about the machines being put in after this round of cuts and savings, and yes we will have to sort less when they do come in which will mean more cutsconcerned wrote:The one thing i am confused about are the arguements about the machines. Other things that make no sense are that the new machines they are talking about are not replacements for old machines, they are in fact an addition and as I understand it they will lengthen the pipeline for a standard postal item rather than reduce it,. Most business modernise by reducing manpower and the supply chain/pipeline - RM modernise by reducing the manpower and lengthening the pipeline.
We are not against machines in principle but what we want is an agreement between our Union and our employers and a joint vision on modernisation so that we can make RM the world leader it once was. However RM refuse to discuss or reveal their plans to us and the public, the 2 groups who will be most affected and in fact although they hold meetings with our Union over modernisation its all one way - "Do it our way" its not the negotiation and implementation by agreement that they signed up to in the 2007 agreement. Royal Mail of course put a different slant on it in their press releases when asked for comment about the local strikes.concerned wrote:Even though the machines would take away sorting jobs?
