Report from Irvine Strike 1st Day
IRVINE DO STRIKE
CWU members in Irvine DO stood together in the face of Royal Mail threats and “bully boy” tactics which have had some members in fear for their jobs. Staff with long service and part timers alike has been treated badly by a RM management team who pay no regard to agreed ways of working established by our Union. After months of talking through the IR framework and after a series of individual grievances we have no other option than to strike.
Before start time on Saturday CWU members met in the yard, as a unit, and walked into the DO together. We delivered a “1st Class items only” service to customers until 08.50, and we walked out as a CWU unit, together, at nine am.
Branch officials met us on the picket line and we watched a series of unhappy “volunteer” managers come and go picking up the rest of our Saturday work. It brought home to a lot of members how hard we usually graft on a Saturday. Despite the presence of between 30 - 40 managers trying to do the job RM declared failures on Saturday. Dozens of York’s of undelivered mail are stacked in the DO.
BBC1 Reporting Scotland arrived and filmed us and two CWU members from the Unit a chance to explain our case to the wider public.
We are out again next Saturday and we will keep striking until we are assured that RM will recognize the right of the CWU to defend its members from intimidation by Unit managers.

Re: CWU FIGHTBACK
Alloa D O took part in the national one day strike on the 17th July two postmen went into work they have now been asked to resign from the CWU as they don't support the majority of CWU members in Alloa D O who took a vote to strike, out of 88 staff in Alloa 86 staff upheld that vote and I would like to personally thank all the CWU members in Alloa for their continued support in these difficult times.
A big thanx to our Anstruther members who supported the national 24hr strike on the 17th July but the members were disappointed when 2 posties from St Andrews who were not on strike decided to work in Anstruther D.O.
I would like to thank all our CWU members in Dunfermline D.O. who once again gave the strike 100% support with the picket line depleted due to the poor weather.
Cowdenbeath D.O. had their usual strong showing on the picket line even with the heavy rain showers. And last but not least thanx to all the Grangemouth members who remain solid.
P.S I will give an update on the rest of the Scotland No2 strike action and any pics when I get them.

inverness joined in on the day of action on the 17th of july, sadly we are still waiting on ballot papers so the best we could do was ask people to take 20mins of there meal relief and walk out at half 7,even if the sorting was still going.the managment tried so hard to stop us from walking out.half 7 came and we downed tools and walked out we got 95% off the office out.i would like to give a huge round off applause to all the offices up and down the country that are taking industrial action stay strong guys we will win...........

Re: CWU FIGHTBACK
A big thanks to all our comrades in E/burgh and Lothians for their latest strike action and thanx to Midge eaten picket for his report
BATHGATE/BROXBURN STRIKE 08/08/09
First pickets arrived at 5:00am thereafter there was an average of ten to twelve pickets outside office. 15 managers/ admin crossed picket line in own cars, hope Unite union is feeling proud of its members ! we all know what they are !! Some of them went out to do specials and packets in their own cars and RM vans. No posties that we know of crossed picket line but heard a rumour some staff went to work in offices not on strike, hope this is not true, if any brothers/sisters saw strange faces in their office Please Let Us Know. If any members worked elsewhere, hope they do the decent thing ( doubt it ) and resign from CWU, one thing for sure Brox/Bath CWU reps will no longer represent them in any way , shape or form ! Only thing left to say...ROLL ON THE NATIONAL BALLOT, WE HAVE ALL GOT TO STICK TOGETHER ON THIS ONE !!
Yours sincerely

Re: CWU FIGHTBACK
Well done to our comrades in Stirling and Lochgelly on there 1st bout of I/A welcome to the good fight.A big thanx to the mail centre and Anstruther for their latest bout o action its hit RM big time, noticed a big drop in managers at the delivery offices they were either stretched big time or our colleagues in the CMA have grown a backbone and discovered some morals and decided not to volunteer to break our legal strikes.
