I WRITE in response to your article, 'Postal Workers To Strike Over Job Cuts' (Ely Standard, August 20).

I am a postal worker and I don't support the strike. Strikes are a lost cause and we the workers will be the only ones to loose out. Modernisation has to start somewhere. Who knows, we could all be better off at the end of the day. The workers of this country are always ready to strike rather than try to pull together to sort the problems out.

I have been a postman for many years. My wife works and I have a young family. We both work very hard and save for what we have. We don't believe in credit as this is the downfall of a lot of people today. As a postman we have a good basic wage plus a lot of extras which the public never hear about. Ask any postman to tell the Ely Standard what their take home pay is with all the extras and I bet you not one will do it. So my advice to the workers is don't strike. You will only spoil a good thing. I will have to strike with the rest of you for the sake of my wife and family, but we all know more jobs will be lost at the end of the day.

I am a postal worker and I don't support the strike.(Fair enough, you will have the opportunity to vote against it) Strikes are a lost cause and we the workers will be the only ones to loose out.(They are the only form of action that we can take legally) Modernisation has to start somewhere(Agreed, let's start by adopting a modern approach to Industrial Relations instead of RM's Victorian one). Who knows, we could all be better off at the end of the day.(I doubt it, but I know who will be better off) The workers of this country are always ready to strike rather than try to pull together to sort the problems out.(We are not the problem and as I pointed out earler, there is no other legal method)

You will only spoil a good thing.(If you think this is a good thing I want to work in your office) I will have to strike with the rest of you for the sake of my wife and family,(Why, you could always choose not to strike) but we all know more jobs will be lost at the end of the day. (And how many more if we don't strike)

this guy does'nt have to strike,we live in a democracy and he is quite within his rights to vote no but if he thinks the job is going to stay the same then he's on a different planet.
i think that if we lose the ballot then this job will be finished as a full time job within a couple of years.then let's see if our friend thinks we are well paid then.

Dunno what hes going on about extras. Theres the grandad rights early shift allowance included in that but thats it.

This bloke is one of those "I only care about me and those in my bubble" type people.

He has to remember that the reason he gets paid the great wage (i think its pittance) he does is that the union secured it. Remember 2007 when RM said there was "no money" for a pay rise and gave us 6.5% over 2 years?

sorry forgot to mention.no overtime rate as im a 30 hour part timer,no SA rate,pro rata bonuses. i am forced to work over my time and complete this geo routed full time round which ive finally had timed at 30 minutes to much on a light (tuesday)days mail.and when your ill(never have been)or on holiday i get 30hrs pay because overtime is voluntary.no nope cant think of these perks your talking about.our do doesnt even have a chair let alone a canteen or even subsidised food.we do have a water boiler.maybe thats what you mean.

Modernisation would be great if that's what it was but unfortunatlyRMs idea of modernisation is to cut staff cut hours and put as much as is impossible to complete into the day, they are only happy when posties have to cut off, they would rather pay USO failure fines than give to us!!
