He must be doing a hell of a lot of O/T.

The bloke may like his cash and a good holiday every year or have split from an X and the CSA took everything away so that when he got a new family he had to start from scratch? He may have had to pay for medical bills for his parents or in-laws or kids of his? Maybe to house his folks in a home? who knows! The point that i am trying to make is nobody should have to do this sort of thing! A roof, health. food, bills, water, holiday, retirement, and recreation should be a right of ours when we get to retirement! It will be our turn next.

I think this debate, while interesting, is pointless.
The next Government, whether (New caring) Conservative, or New (Conservative) Labour
is going to raise the retirement age, probably to 70.

It certainly does - I'll be 100 in 2046 - so I would imagine I will be retired by then - unless of course I don't feel like retiring, I will need a parking space for my mobility scooter, a ramp and somewhere to put my walking frame, a talking dictionary/thesaurus, dragon speak, hearing aid, a medicine cabinet but I will still be able to do the job - well in my opinion.

without being too unsympathetic, he could have been prudent and used the extra money earned from his overtime to overpay his mortgage, working only off his basic wages, that way you can cover yourself against any unforeseen circumstances.

I did this and my mortgage is now paid off, I used all my extra money to overpay and pay off the balance, I still do overtime to put aside for rainy day, I live off my basic wage, I never assume that everything will be hunky dorey from now to forever, this is one of life's hard financial lesson.

I do have another suggestion though - it does involve a bed, a little blue tablet, well maybe two or three and ahem.......................... some female company.
