Mail service in disarray across London, deliveries at 7pm

The price of the ongoing feud between Royal Mail management and its staff is being felt directly by Londoners who are reporting erratic and in some cases non-existent mail delivery services.

Reports from readers of the London Daily News have shown that areas of west London are receiving mail in the evening; with one reader claiming to have seen his post man arrive at 7pm.

In other parts of London the mail delivery service has been after lunch with much of the problems down to the insistence of Royal Mail management to have night deliveries of HGV's start after 5am not allowing staff to have mail ready for door-to-door deliveries until late morning and in some cases lunch time.

There are more strikes planned with the CWU the union representing the Royal Mail workers locked in a bitter dispute with the management. Royal Mail management have used non-union staff and private HGV companies to carry mail during the dispute in order to maintain mail services.

Whilst the strike action is still localized presumably RM can employ whom they choose to ferry mail from one point to another, avoiding strike-hit MCs for example. When the strike action becomes national, does that not prevent RM from using outside agencies of any kind to assist in any part of the operation? I seem to recall that RM were warned about their conduct either in the 2007 dispute or a prior dispute?

Sadly yes. In fact. They've used Stobart to help, when we ran out of Trucks and Drivers, last year. So if they could do it then. It can't be illegal. It's IMMORAL, but not illegal!

What I find so shocking, is that the Public so rarely complain, when we fail to meet the deadlines for the USO. And neither do the Posties/Reps. Don't you realise how much trouble it would cause for RM, if the truth came out?
RM has a LEGAL OBLIGATION to deliver the Mail before 14:00, or 15:00 for Rurals, if I remember correctly. Yet there are people recieving their Mail, AFTER that time. Why isn't something being done about it?

Nothing is being done about it because ppl don't really care that much. I know it sounds harsh, but not getting your mail these days is not the end of the world, and not getting it in the morning is certainly not the end of the world in most cases.

It is August and many businesses are essentially closed with ppl on holiday.

Enough mail will be getting through, esp. special deliveries for essential items.

As for bonuses you will need to see what Croziers bonus is made up of. There will be company wide targets, and then specific financial targets amongst other things that will make up his bonus as agreed with non-exec. directors. It is the same with your bonus. Come hell or high water you will probably get about 80% of it each year. That is what in my opinion makes a mockery of the bonus system is when it becomes almost part of your normal pay. Can someone look into this who has either access or more knowledge to either slap me down or confirm my thoughts on this one.

He postponed his approx. £1m bonus this year because he didn't want the bad press in the current financial climate.

I believe the wording of the USO is 'The delivery is to be PLANNED for 1400 on towns or 100 for rurals' that way if a delivery is later it can be said that it is only a temporary thing and that it's normally before the times stated.

We have been told we will not get any more bonuses other than the ones we are receiving already - namely

ICS Supplement (Not really a bonus bt a hangover from SDD IIRC)
PBS Supplement (As above)
ColleagueShares Dividend (The valuation has just gone down)
ColleagueShares Sell Back (2 and 3 years away)

50/50 has finished
Share in success has finished

Managerial Bonuses though will continue until the current "contract" on them expires.
