You're 19 ? What the hell are you doing here.
Seriously, get retrained, go to college, go traveling, anything but this.
This is no place for a 19 year old. Get out before you waste your life.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

It's a great job, if you're lucky and get a good round. If you get a big round then it can be quite a testing job.

The difference between the smallest and biggest rounds can be massive. After working in two DOs and doing 20-30 rounds, I'd say the difference between the smallest and biggest rounds can be as much as 2:1 in terms of how long it takes to do them.

To begin with though you're likely to be put on any old round, different ones every day and usually the worst ones that no-one else wants to do. You'll probably struggle with finding your way around and end up taking several hours longer to do the rounds then you should do. Then you'll encounter problems with claiming overtime as the managers will say you're too slow.

Eventually though if you can put up with all of that you should be able to gradually get used to things, learn most of the rounds, do the rounds in a decent time, and eventually maybe even get yourself a permenant round.

Depsite all the moans and groans on here (and a lot at work you'll find), it can be an excellent job, something that is borne out by the fact that not many people leave the job once they've been there a while.

One thing about the job is that it's certainly not a boring job, where you'll find yourself losing the will to live as you watch the clock in an office or factory - the fact that you're indoor and outdoor effectively splits the job into two quite different chunks, and time tends to go quite fast when you're out delivering.

I`m 20 and Ive been here for 10 months now. I actually enjoy the job itself, but the managers, different walks every day, really piss me off sometimes. I was put on a walk for 3 months when I started then 4 hour deliveries came in and there was a resign. since then every been on on adifferent walk every week and most days to be honest. the only good thing I got out the resign is, that I got a full time 40 hour contract. I was a mug at first, came in before my time, used my car some days, but I learned, now i work to my time and dont go over and refuse to do overtime, as managers take ther piss with it, and only pay it when they feel like, and dont use my car. Although my colleagues are great and the banter is immense, theres a few back stabbers, but hey!. youll probably find it tough when your thrown on and off walks and sent to other offices, because thats what got me really down, but come in at your time finish at your time, do everything by the book and they cant touch you. good luck

One word of warning I'll give you is don't trust the managers. It's so sad that is the way it is but they all act like ur best pal but they have RMs hand up their backside making them talk. Now I'm not saying a lot of it is their fault, they're just doing their jobs. The problem is many abuse their power. Our manager comes in at 10am every morning, goes home at 12 and is sneaky. One boy went out on a duty and the manager put his p45 thru his door while he was out.

That depends on the Manager. There are still a few good ones left. Although they are put under emense pressure to "tow the line". :hmmmm

The way I see it: It's not a case of us against the Managers. But us (Posties and local Managers) against the Fat Cats, who are only interested in how much money they can make. Regardless of the cost to their Employees (Posties and local Managers), and the Public.

Now we all know that they cross the Picket Lines. But that's a completely different issue. It's wrong, and I have no intention of defending them for that. But they are under attack from above, just as much as we are. It's just a pity that they don't seem to realise that they are making their own situation worse, by undermining us. :hmmmm
