Re: They Are Under Pressure!!
That sounds like someone who doesn't know what he's talking about and is now starting to throw his toys out of the pram. Just demanding something to be done and then complaining that it can't be done is not management in my eyes.

to the time :lfo sent those appalling unprofessional " letters " out ? i.e. " You will do this or I'll scream and scream till I'm sick " nonsense ?
Appalling man management but no surprise , what's their union doing about it ........nothing ? , you'll always get the big baby & egotistical rubbish but not to that extreme ?
Whoever sent that wants his legs smacking and sending to bed with no tea

Re: They Are Under Pressure!!
Sadly Gary Burgess is a regional delivery director which means he is in charge of all delivery and collections issues in the Thames Valley region , and has been a very senior manager for a long time. He used to be an industrial relations manager in London years ago and back then was a reasonable manager to deal with.
But clearly the pressure is showing. The bit when he says these are not just our targets is very revealing as it exposes that these targets are all coming from the centre.
So once again there can be no hiding place for our members as the whole of Royal Mail" attacks are being conducted centrally and will therefore effect everyone in every office.

Zero pressure. Does that mean no claiming of overtime?
He seems to refer to the removal of people working their day off to cover absence. Am i reading this right?

You are Royal Mail"s aim is zero pressure. You will note he states that this is not just his target but an overall bussiness target.

It's one thing to say theres no overtime, which there hasn't been in our D.O. since
at least xmas, but when pegasus has set an 85% call rate and the mail goes above
this, how do they anticipate they will cover it,if you only have to work your hours,
who takes the extra plus a walk thats been lapsed?
Oh that's right, they expect you to go the extra mile and work longer one day
because you'll finish earlier the next.
What a bloody mess.

Very interesting.
I'm in the Thames Valley area.
Who's he kidding.
There was about 3 pages of docket yesterday.
We have people claiming every day.
Looks like the sh*t's gonna hit the fan soon.
Ps.
What a knob that bloke is.

Re: They Are Under Pressure!!
The tone of his letter clearly indicates that managers in office are not complying with his instructions and that overtime is still being claimed and paid.
Probably the most revealing bit and the most disturbing is that this letter is clearly designed to bully and intimidate DSMs who of course then bully DOMs who then bully our members in order to comply with the overall strategy.
The problem with all this is that it is unsustainable and thought up by people at the top who have never done a delivery.
The fact is that we have seen almost a 3rd of the workforce being lost since 2003 (40 thousand ) and whilst there may or may not have been a 10% reduction in traffic the realitiy is that the loss of jobs mean we are far more productive then we have ever been and if you consider the number of delivery points in the uk have increased by over 20 % in the last 5 years then all postal workers are now delivering to more delivery points then they have ever done.
It does make me laugh when i hear some who claim the union has not changed and has stopped modensation and automation. What a load of rubbish. When I first came into Royal Mail 35lbs was a delivery and anything above was overtime now most of our deliveries have more then 5 bags and some who have above 10.
There were over 140 mail centres now there are 65 , we had sunday collections then Royal Mail stopped them then they re started them and now once again have stopped them , we had 5 collections per day now in many places there is only one. We had trains including the travelling post office TPO ) now we dont , we had two deliverys now have one, we had double time on overtime after 12 hours and that went , we had saturday premium and lost that , we had PHGs and lost them , we never had any part timers until SFMB in 86 and now in some areas we now have over 50% part timers , we had cashless pay , we had traffic related bonus schemes and we had hardly any automation until the 80s now we have remote coding , flat machines , imps , walk sequencing and loads of other automation including PDAs ect.
Off course we have not change at all dont make me laugh. There cannot be any major public organisation who has changed as much as us.Oh and we lost over 40 000 jobs in the last decade.
However despite all these changes has this bussiness moved forward ? I really dont think so , instead it has been mis managed on a massive scale everything from Croziers disaster at agreeing the DSA access price which was to low 13.5 to buying foreign companies for millions then selling them for pennies a year later. oh and of course changing one of the leading brand name Royal Mail to Consigna .
Plus investing in machines which are not going to work to the standards they thought becuase the UK do deliver packets and flats whereas in Holland they dont.
Most senior managers like Crozier , Higson , Hadden and others have no knowledge that this bussines should be first and foremost a public service , afterall our lience is first to provide the USO. Instead management just want to rip out costs and services in order to drive up profits and then they can profit big fat bonus and then get head hunted for a different company. Whereas the majority of postal workers want to stay in this job till retirement therefore we want Royal Mail to continue to provide a service and good terms for workers.

Great post. Makes you think about how much the workforce has modernised over the years as opposed to the RM perception.dingo wrote:The tone of his letter clearly indicates that managers in office are not complying with his instructions and that overtime is still being claimed and paid.

Its frightening to think that the business is being run and our futures decided by people like this guy. People who clearly have no idea of whats going on on the ground.
Its almost like the generals sending the troops over the top whatever the casualties. TBH ive never read anything like it in my life.

There is a lot of sulking about a failed part privatisation and you have to remember these managers are waiting for Slimy Dave Snooty ( A sort of Hooray Henry Tony Blair from Hell - ) and his old Etonian pals to arrive and lucrative private sector jobs ?
This negative top down , very autocratic and regimented style simply isn't working
I think ? with TNT Holland - Packets etc are done separately , maybe only twice a week and the service is regarded as a joke
