Postal Strike makes UK the sick man of Europe

What are the Royal Mail and the Postal Workers playing at with this ongoing Postal Strike?

The global economy is just starting to show signs of recovery; France, Germany and Japan are officially out of recession and in the UK workers and management in the Royal Mail are uniting to inflict further pain on British businesses.

The Communication Workers Union (some irony in the name methinks) are calling for;” meaningful negotiations on modernisation, pay and job security.”
Surely this is not the right way to go about improving job security? Many businesses, especially smaller organisations rely on the postal service to send and receive cheques – if they can’t rely on this service then they will look for alternatives. And in today’s ‘connected’ world there are many an alternative available.
As for ‘modernisation’ - mail volumes are falling by almost 10% year on year – surely it is evident to everyone concerned that this means that there need to be radical changes to working practices.

In the early nineteenth century it was the ‘Luddites’ who protested against changes produced as a result of the Industrial Revolution the French might say; ‘plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose’ - The more things change, the more they stay the same. One thing’s for sure; modernisation will happen and working practices will change – so please management and postal workers start communicating.

Posties are thinking about the customers (residential and business) that why we are out striking trying to revive the postal system since it has been killed off by incoherent management ideas. No one should knock posties until they have walked in their shoes. Like I have said before, if people want to know how the postal system works get a temporary job at Christmas and then you will see for youself whether it is worth us posties striking.
