Some poster's level of understanding of what goes on in RM never ceases to amaze, though. You may see it as pedantic, but you can't be sure of what he really meant.
I mean, some people still quote from the Socialist Worker in the belief that it's real...

So basically you are saying that the lack of junior managers training to fully implement automation lies with Royal Mail lack of training given to junior managers?

It's not just Management training. It's most (if not all) RM traning. The training that RM provides now, is terrible, conpared to what they provided in the past. The number of times, a new starter (alegedly trained) has come to me (or one of my Collegues), with a question. Which although perfectly understandable, if you weren't trained. Would have been thought rediculous, if I'd asked it, after my training! They're lucky if they get more than a few minutes, of someone saying "that goes there, that goes there, you work here. Get on with it.". What happened to explaining everything properly. Particularly the H&S rules, like: maximum weights. And what to do, if you think something is overweight. To name, but 2.

It's a good job that we've got the patience to explain these things, to them. Even though, it often puts us behind with our own work!

Yes i was talking about the new automation that was included in the pay and mod 2007. Its clear that was what i was referring to in my original post otherwise i wouldnt have used the terms "pay and modernisation 2007".

Ive always thought those who break up posts on forums/emails and respond to one chunk at a time have a hard time structuring a fluent, reasoned argument. You know who you are...

Its not the CWU blocking modernisation - its Royal Mail.
Where is the automation? I dont see any and i doubt i'll see any for a while yet

Me deluded? That last sentence alone shows you haven't got much of a clue. Go to any MC and look around. Automation's been in RM for 40+ years now.

DOs have seen no increase automation or any major modernisation as we don't have the WSM, electric trolleys, or walking PDAs that have been promised for years. We have however had an increase in work load, longer delivery spans, longer working days, later starts and un-agreed qualitative measuring tools.

Some DOs have CD Van deliveries which again is unagreed as AFAIK the trials have not yet reported. We have also have a higher % of coded bundles than before, however there appear to be more missorts in them than before - have the MCs cut down the number of passes through the machines to save time and money

This is why most if not all delivery posties don't accept RM idea, or statements, of modernisation because we have yet to see any benefits or even drawbacks.

Two things about RM - "What they say and what they do is totally different" and "seeing is believeing" stick to that tman and you won't go far wrong!

So yes deluded is the correct word!

They're definitely coming to my officer very soon, we're having 3 machines and 11 people to run them on a 11PM-9AM 4 day week. The closing date for applications was this week with a view to them coming in early October.

11 people to run them - blimey !!!!
We've got 3 machines with 5 operators on Sunday & Monday night and 6 for the rest of the week.We work a 4 night week.
When a lorry driver goes sick or they can't cover the jobs we lose an operator - and sequencing machine operators don't sweat,they glow !!!!!!!
(no forget that - they sweat !!!!!!!!!!)

He was referring to the lack of effect on his particular Delivery. Not all Offices have automation. For example: We have FLTs, Scuds, and a machine for changing the Batteries. That's the extent of the Automation. Although to be fair. I work in an RDC, not a DO.

Are they in one of the Trial Offices, or are they actually being rolled out (better late than never eh? )?

Please could everyone, on BOTH sides of the argument. Restrict themselves to reasoned debate. There's a growing number of unpleasant comments, from both sides. It doesn't help the debate, and it's beginning to get out of hand.
