Royal Mail workers in Skegness to strike

Friday, 2.30pm - ROYAL Mail workers in Skegness will strike on Monday, August 24, for 24 hours from 3am.
The strikes, which will happen all over the region, have been called by the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) because it feels Royal Mail is attacking its members terms and conditions.


The CWU is also alarmed by Royal Mail's declaration at a meeting on Tuesday that it was aiming to downsize. The union feels this will worsen public service and put job security at risk.


Area delivery representative Adam Oakes said: "Royal mail is continuing to refuse to reach national agreements; they are now forcing the local postmen and women to take on extra work that they simply have not got time to complete within the duty times.


"Royal Mail continue to refuse to discuss in a reasonable manner, and in line with national agreements, the workload of its staff, instead they prefer to bully and threaten members by attempting to stop their pay, an approach they have used in offices in the PE area, including Kings Lynn, Peterborough and Skegness."
